There are good insights here. Agreed.Originally posted by creekster View PostI don't think the blame springs primarily from party politics. I think it springs from a systemic failure to address the needs of a substantial portion of the electorate. I have spoken to a couple of people who plan to vote for Trump and it is my impression that they are not voting for Trump nearly as much as they are voting against the system. When I ask them why they are voting for him they most often talk about what he is not as opposed to what he is or what he will do."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

I don't think Trump was anyone's favorite initially, except maybe for Coulter. I'm sure most of them wanted someone more respectable and less gross. But he outflanked every one on immigration, including Cruz. From what I understand (insert 'never watch Fox News or listen to talk show hosts' disclaimer here), most of them have come around to offer tepid support. And other than supreme court nominations, immigration is the main reason they support him. And the same goes to their most loyal fans.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostThis explanation doesn't do it for me. Other than Hannity, none of the right wing talk show hosts wanted Trump to win the Republican nomination. So how can they have so much effect to cause Trump's nomination, but yet not enough effect to prevent Trump's nomination? It doesn't make sense. Beck, Levin, Rush and the myriad other right wingers would have been much happier with Cruz, who is nothing like Trump.

A lot of truth in this.Originally posted by Sleeping in EQ View PostI'm frustrated with those on both the left and the right who are astonishingly hypersensitive and insensitive at the same time. Culturally, it's like we punch the "Other" in the face while screaming about how that person is hurting us. At the extremes, these are people who present themselves as "Social Justice Warriors" and as "Real Americans," and they are inevitably total asses."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Not what I said at all in my post (I chose my words carefully). Thank you to others (SEIQ, Creek, NWC, etc.) who read it as I intended and have given some good responses.Originally posted by Applejack View PostI love these "blame the liberals" posts. If we elect a orange demagogue, it will be the fault of those that voted for him, not those that oppose him. It is really not that difficult of a concept to understand.

Just think how awesome his 'swish!' is going to be, after Clinton regains all her momentum and wins in a landslide!Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostTotally expected. He cornered the market on the immigration issue coupled with the blue collar worker who believes that his or her job is fleeing overseas. It was an easy storm to take advantage of, because many in this economic group have no representative. The GOP typically stands for free trade, and the Dems have been silent on these issues since Bill Clinton.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostI don't think Trump was anyone's favorite initially, except maybe for Coulter. Tell me again how neither the republican or dem candidate doesn't get to 270 and the mormon CIA dude becomes president. This crap is starting to scare me.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostTotally expected. Right, Moliere?"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Well, when several other polls have Clinton +4, +5, and +6, yeah, I'd expect a random poll to be favorable to the Donald.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostTotally expected. Right, Moliere?
Polls always get wacky the week before the election. Mittmentum was a real fake thing, too."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

But when it was down to Trump vs. Cruz they weren't supporting Cruz. At least, it sure didn't seem like it to me. Most of those talk show guys are really fakes who only really care about having as many listeners as possible. When it was clear to them that their audiences were overwhelmingly in the Trump camp they dropped their conservative principles and started rooting for Trump even though Cruz was closer to the ideology they had always previously touted.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostThis explanation doesn't do it for me. Hannity was in the tank for Trump early. However, most of the others that I occasionally tune in to (Rush, Levin, Beck) were not fans of Trump.Originally posted by BlueK View PostBut when it was down to Trump vs. Cruz they weren't supporting Cruz.
