LOL! Did Obama say that we need to hire more teachers in the middle of a debate on foreign policy? That's funny.Jonah Goldberg @JonahNRO
It really wasn't until FDR dramatically shrunk U.S. class sizes that the Japanese knew their defeat was inevitable."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

It's his plan to create jobs and strengthen our education programs. Hire more teachers and all of a sudden our students get smarter and unemployment drops. Brilliant.Originally posted by Moliere View PostLOL! Did Obama say that we need to hire more teachers in the middle of a debate on foreign policy? It's interesting the way his mind works. He's a smart guy so it must be painful for him to do so much self-deception as a way to pander for votes. The turmoil inside of him must be redlining.Originally posted by Surfah View PostIt's his plan to create jobs and strengthen our education programs. I actually think the neccesity of going negative is really hurting him. I believe he really hates this type of campaigning and really wanted to believe in hope and change. He picked crappy circumstances to be the POTUS, but then again without those circumstances he might not have made it. I think his core shortcoming was identified a long time ago at that debate where capital gains taxes was brought up and he said that even if a higher cap gains tax rate hurt economic growth and thus government revenues he is in favor of increasing it as a fundamental issue of "fairness." That illuminated that he was left of the US electorate and also illuminated that he was either "principled" or "staunchly ideological," depending upon one's personal ideological bend. Frequently staunchly ideological folks don't make good Presidents. Due to his poor performance as President his campaign had no choice but to go negative and I think it makes Barak less genuine and that is hurting him and driving down his once impeccable likeability numbers.Originally posted by Moliere View PostIt's interesting the way his mind works. I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

It's getting late in the game, Romney's jumped about five points since last night.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostWhat are you doing here then? I don't understand this. After the debate they talked about how the focus group time after time was turned off by the attacks. And that this has been consistent during all of the debates.Originally posted by All-American View PostStronger leader? Obama, 51 to 46.
Likable, Obama, 47 to 46.
Who attacked more? Obama, 68 to 21.
So if they are so turned off by one candidate attacking the other...and they perceived that Obama attacked 68% of the time compared to 21% for Romney....and in spite of them not liking the attacks and Obama attacking more than 3X the amount Romney did...Obama is more likeable, but barely.
All this tells me is that these morons answering poll questions more or less capable of answering the black and white questions (who attacked more) and they are able to tell you what they think you want to hear as far as political correctness (they think they are supposed to say that they don't like it when one candidate attacks another) but they are completely disconnected when trying to justify what they think/feel as compared to what they really do think/feel.
Should make for an interesting couple of weeks...
I think folks like to say the winner of the debate is the person who landed the most punches. But landing punches isn't what gets you elected. People thinking you will be a good leader and have solutions to problems is what gets you elected.Originally posted by CJF View PostI agree. I like watching debates and judging who technically won the debate. But the real winner in these events is not always the technical winner. Romney did what he needed to do tonight. Technically he had his head handed to him. Battle vs war. I think Romney came closer to winning the war tonight.

I fell asleep during the debate last night and woke up in time to see the closing statements. It was a rehash of the last 2 debates tricled with Foreign Policy.. I think Romeny did nothing to hurt himself but look very Presidential in his responses and mannerisms..
I did think in the beginning Romney had a chance to zing Obama on foreign policy when Obama made the statement (Not exact quote), "We will sit back and allow the people these country's in turmoil and government transition to determine who will govern them as a people".
I think this statement was not good for Obama and was one Romney could of truly hurt his Foreign Policy history..
The fact Obama has taken this approach is why many of these country's are now falling into the wrong hands.. Egypt is a prime example...

Comparing the Navy to horses and bayonets is turning into a big negative for Obama. He looked unserious and seemed to be totally dismissive about the concept of a navy. Apparently ships capable of keeping trade by sea open and transporting men, supplies and gear all over the world doesn't really matter.
People digest these debates for a couple days after and that statement is receiving a lot of attention and I don't think it's going to be very good for Obama.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I for one am very happy with the approach Romney took last night. My only worry was the righties in the party would roundly criticize him causing the media to jump on the dissention in the ranks again. Thankfully I haven't seen much complaining from the righties.
While talk radio and Hannity get a thrill out of zingers and ripping on the President, their constituency in reality is a small segment of the population.
Romney's only real chance to win is to keep the base while letting the public know he isn't one of the far righties.
A lefty can get away with being a far lefty on a national level because of the support or should I say "cover" they get from the press. When you count minorities and also those who are in love with government support, the leftie also has a bigger built in base.

How could that line possibly look bad for Obama? Romney looked like an uneducated fool in that whole topic. He kept talking about number of ships and planes as if any reasonable person would think that the way to win a modern war is to have more boats. Obama talked about providing the military staff with the budget that they asked for, not 2 trillion more than they asked for like Romney would prefer they be given. That will resonate with people. Finally, Romney's statement that Syria is Iran's access to the sea shows that he didn't really prepare very well for that segment. Obama looked presidential -- Romney looked like he was grasping at straws.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostThinking back on this debate, it may end up being Rmoney's most genius moment. He let Obama act like an attack dog and counterpunched effectively, he moved to the middle, and kept Obama from painting him has some kind of crazy. Dropping the Benghazi arguement was interesting.
"Horses and bayonets" should end up being the go to line coming out of this, which isn't good for Obama.Visca Catalunya Lliure

Fairly even-handed summary of the night-- a bit of a surprise, coming as it does from the NY Times.
