          • To anyone who declared a "winner" in this debate: on what grounds? "Points?" What is this, College Bowl? Who cares about points?

The question is whether Obama gained any ground back from Romney tonight. Short of that, it's a loss for him. That's all that matters.

            • If you think about this as a hockey game, for instance, Romney jumped out to a 6 goal lead in the first period. Obama played better than Romney in the 2nd and 3rd periods but only picked up a couple of goals.

This analogy, I realize, breaks down quickly.

Shouldn't it be? The question is whether Obama Romney gained any ground back from Romney Obama in Ohio, tonight. Short of that, it's a loss for him. That's all that matters.

CNN said it gained him no ground. In fact, I think he might have hurt himself. On the question of who "attacked" more, it was 60+ to 20 something that Obama was attacking.

That doesn't generally endear a person to people.

On the question of who was more likable, they were dead even.

I disagree somewhat. Debate is a competition. There are immediate winners and losers in competition. The overall winner of the debates will be declared at the polls, I agree, but that doesn't mean that the process tonight cannot judged.

Or maybe this. I dunno. I still have a hope that Romney can win without Ohio but maybe grabbing votes somewhere else.

No. Romney (the challenger) knocked down Obama (the champion) in the first round, won the 2nd and 3rd on points, lost or split the remaining rounds without being knocked down. Now the decision is with the judges.

                              • Thinking back on this debate, it may end up being Rmoney's most genius moment. He let Obama act like an attack dog and counterpunched effectively, he moved to the middle, and kept Obama from painting him has some kind of crazy. Dropping the Benghazi arguement was interesting.

"Horses and bayonets" should end up being the go to line coming out of this, which isn't good for Obama.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
