Exactly. Gergen nailed it. He said there are a lot of traps in this debate and Mitt avoided them. Obama and the dems wanted to paint him as a warmonger and Romney didn't give an inch. Mitt continues his move to the center and the only retort Obama has was that he has been all over the place. I don't think that stifles Mitt's momentum.

I hope it was the quote from Ferris Bueller's Day Off:

            • Uh, oh! Luntz's crew isn't getting along this time. Stripper lady and the African-American lady are going after Romney, much to the chagrin of other panelists. They all seem to know the talking points, almost like they're not really undecided.

                That would have been funny.

Luntz asked the group (24/27 voted for Obama in 2008) what they thought of Romney. The guy gets a big cheesy smile and says "Winning!"

                • The dunces loved Obama on FoPo issues in a FoPo debate. But just to be fair and balanced, Luntz asked them if they thought Mitt Romney won on economic issues.

It must be infuriating for Democrats to have little more than "Liar, Liar Pants on fire!". Clinton warned them how well it worked for Republicans in their battles with him...quick let Clinton check the polling on that issue! Voters prefer pragmatists and people who appear to listen.

CBS has Obama winning by a big margin, but I don't think it matters that much.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                            • Asking who won the debate is the wrong question. (Even though I asked it a few minutes ago. )

The right question is this: can you see Romney as a viable Presidential alternative?

After the last two weeks, the answer is unequivocally yes. Obama, unable to run on his own record, has tried to paint Romney as unfit for the Presidency. He has failed at that, and that's why he'll probably lose the election. All of the punditry wonking about minor debate points really is just seeing the trees instead of the forest.
