That is a great answer. Newt is good at this game.

This is a great find. Here' s a good quip:

Gingrich was robust in his praise of the business model, suggesting that NASA would have been able to send men to Mars if it had the same business model as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, known as government-sponsored enterprises.

"While we need to improve the regulation of the GSEs, I would be very cautious about fundamentally changing their role or the model itself," he said at the time.

Newt is the most skilled debater I've ever seen in politics. Clinton was good, but that look of his gave him away. With Newt, you believe every word he says.

But if you are a voter who increasingly believes that the game is rigged against you and your family and that wealthy, politically connected elites are conspiring to enrich and empower themselves at your expense, Gingrich and Paul would sound like the only sane men on the stage.
Does the bolded part describe anyone in this race better than Newt himself?

              You do?

I think Paul Krugman has been right about one thing in the last decade and this was it: "Gingrich is a dumb person's idea of what a smart person sounds like."

You being a very smart person I'd expect that when say "you believe" you mean "the average voter apparently believes."

It seems that trying to get the work done in Washington is his de facto answer for his screw ups in the late 90s.

That's why he won SC. The dude can articulate the conservative message like nobody's business. After years of having candidates who can barely string two sentences together, it is refreshing to hear him speak. And even if he's not right, he's got that professorial speak / needleneck wanker thing down where he can spew bullshit and seem smart and believable. Just like Obama, only without a teleprompter.

I'm not a supporter, but I can see the appeal. The way he handled that adultery question was amazing to behold.

It was Clintonian. Or is it Clinton-esque?

Either way, it was very crafty.

I bet Newt got a congrats cal from Clinton. "Hey Newt, it's Bill. Boy, that was a damn fine answer there, brought a tear to me eye. We should party, I know some gals."

Given a chance, I believe most Republicans would vote for Bill Clinton over nearly any of the Republican candidates this year.

I like Mitt and think he would probably be a respectable President. But I can't think of a truly wonderful candidate nominated by the Republican Party in my lifetime. Yay, Nixon, Ford, GHW Bush, Bob Dole, GWB, McCain, Newt/Rumneh...

(Reagan was nominated over the gritted teeth and much to the chagrin of the GOP establishment.)

This is a lot like what we saw back in 2008. Everybody in the media and most people were saying what a great speaker Obama was. I never thought so. Now, almost all republicans, and many democrats have determined that Obama is not a good speaker at all.

With Newt they point to his supposed take down of King and Williams as proof that he is a great debater. Well, neither of those responses had much of anything to do with being a good debater. With Obama it took people a little while to accept that he's not a good speaker. With Newt, it will probably only take until the "debates" with Obama. Sure, he's not a bad debater, he just hasn't shown that he is a good debater. What would this all look like if they didn't have silly crowds cheering in the debates?

Do you know many republicans? Apparently not.
