Ah yes, those guys who leave their families for months on end and put their lives on the line to serve their country and protect the rest of us are really just a bunch of lazy freeloading assholes.

Quite frankly, that is one of the dumbest posts ever on CUF.

I assumed this would be the response, but you've completely missed the point. Expecting anyone without specialized talents to join the military to find a job is exactly the kind of bullshit this movement is protesting against. What happens if one is young and poor and unskilled but doesn't feel particularly great about American Imperialism? What if one doesn't want to risk getting killed for a bullshit cause? For many people, the military is simply a welfare program. Those on welfare shouldn't be lecturing others about getting a job.

Maybe the military should drop their zero tolerance policy on drugs, lower the AFVAB/education requirements, and not require hair cuts so these dumbass OWS'ers can suck on the "gubmint teat" as well.

I guarantee you the average OWSer has more education than the average grunt soldier. I know that we're all expected to worship military folks, but I expect them to avoid making ignorant political statements. They aren't over there for the grand patriotic reasons we'd like to think. Most of them are over there because they didn't have any better options. It's just sad that they don't realize the irony of their situation.

No, what's sad is that you disrespect those who are willing to die so you can be free to say such vitriolic things about them.

If they have more education then they are sure not showing it...

"Willing" seems awfully generous. Yes, they understand that their choice involves the risk of injury and death. I bet for the vast majority of them it was a simple business decision.

Also, please don't pretend they're over there protecting anybody's freedom. That's just insulting.

I missed your point too, brother. Not the best one you have ever made (and you've made some really good ones), especially a few minutes after scolding police for lacking finesse and situational awareness.

You have a wildly different definition of welfare than mine.

Plenty of entry level jobs to go around. McDonalds has cradle-to-grave minimum wage employment programs. WalMart too.

Why are you so contemptuous of someone who selects this honorable line of work for his/her career path? Okay, it's not for you, and you don't feel a need to glorify those who do. Just let them do their job. Peace, bro.

Or maybe you think everyone has the right to protest unless they're soldiers protesting OWS?

Yes, McDonalds is hiring. What do we call people who work at McDonalds? The poor. The point here isn't finding a job; it's finding a job that pays a living wage. There is no hope for someone who just isn't willing to work at all, but that's not what we're talking about. That's a conservative stereotype based on the silly myth that hard work and income are directly related. Most poor people have jobs; often more than one.

You say these folks are skilled, have a decent to respectable level of education, yet are unable to find a job that pays a living wage? That might also be construed as insulting.

I wonder how many people define "living wage" as a wage that allows them to buy video game consoles, starbucks, and iPads (or in the case of some, the Palmetto tablet)? I think that is really what is at the heart of this. People are out there, scraping by, getting it done one way or another. Some work multiple jobs to accomplish this task. And unfortunately, many of them don't enjoy a lot of life's luxuries. To clarify, are you saying that generally speaking, an educated and willing individual cannot survive or cannot afford toys and perks? I would probably disagree with one of those, agree with the other. Just my opinion.

When the job market is bad, the point is finding a job, even if it's not the best paying job. Sometimes you just have to take whatever you can get. When I graduated from law school, I didn't have a job at all, nor did I have any leads on one. Finally, after I was admitted to the bar, I got a part-time job for $20 an hour. Not exactly what I imagined when I started law school.

When my dad lost his job when I was in high school and had a hard time finding a job, what did he do? He got a job at Discover Card's call center. Here's a guy with an MBA, former VP of a mortgage company with years of experience, and the best thing he could find was being a customer service rep. At the same time, he and my mom started two companies. It wasn't the greatest situation for my dad, but I learned that you don't always have the luxury of waiting for your dream job or even a job that pays "a living wage."
                              Not that, sickos.

I never said they were skilled, and I'm not going to get into what people should be doing with the money they have. The lack of educational opportunities and exposure to values like saving money contribute to poverty. Some can't survive, some can't afford "toys and perks". Both are a problem, unless you really think that enjoyment of life isn't something one should value.
