As a kid in the '60s, I watched a lot of convention coverage, including the GOP convention at SF's Cow Palace in '64 when Goldwater fought off the Rockefeller/Romney moderates, and the fascinating '68 Dem convention in Chicago with all the riots, Dan Rather getting worked over by Daley's thugs, and the Chicago 8.

    Let's make history in Tampa!
Sounds fun, but I think I'll be in Dayton, Ohio that week. Sorry I can't go.

My father was a delegate for Gary Hart (pre-Donna Rice) in San Francisco in 1984. My parents had a lot of fun there.

Although, I would think that it is fairly obvious that any Cuffers wanting to be a delegate in 2012 would prefer to run on the Democratic slate.

I'd be sorry too if I had to be in Dayton in November instead of Tampa.

            Is Dayton nice in August?

            • Romney saves NJ family from drowning:

I'm left wondering what an online political commentator also has asked — why doesn't the candidate ever mention an incident in which he rescued a Hunterdon County family in a sinking boat?
              http://baskingridge.patch.com/articl...-from-drowning

"We heard a whole bunch of screaming," Josh Romney told the Boston Herald. The Romney brothers and their father quickly raced to their Jet Skis. "We tore out of there and my dad hopped on the other Jet Ski and came out right after us."

The screams came from Robert Morrissey, of New Jersey, his wife, their two adult children, two family friends, and the family dog.
              http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczyn...some-reason-th

The governor pulled the two younger women aboard his three-seater Jet Ski and zoomed back to shore, while his sons helped the mother of the family onto their vehicle.

In the middle of the rescue, the governor actually took a dunking himself -- thrown off the Jet Ski as one anxious boater scrambled aboard and tipped the craft off-balance.

The rescuing Romneys also managed to snatch the family dog, McKenzie, from a watery grave -- grabbing the Scottish terrier first because it was the only passenger without a lifejacket.

              • Oh, and another, separate rescue on the lake:

The weekend incident actually marked the Romney clan's second heroic rescue on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Several years ago, the elder Romney -- who was then heading up the Olympics -- and the boys had to rush out in a boat and scoop up a batch of kayakers who were being battered and run onto rocks by fierce winds.

Josh Romney shrugged off the "hero" label.

"We were just lucky to be in the right place," he said. "We did what anyone else would have done."

Sgt. Robertson said he wasn't surprised at the Good Samaritan behavior by the Romneys, who are well known to the neighbors.

                • LOL! Cruising around saving people on a fleet of 3-seater jet skis!

Even when performing life-saving heroics, Romney can't help but flaunt his wealth.

                  • Oh, and he's also saved his own family members:

Matt Romney shared a personal story about their family vacation when his father rescued him from drowning. He got pushed into a reef, his leash and surfboard were wrapped around the reef, he was under the water, “and probably in real danger of drowning.”

He said his father, who just walked back to the hotel, had that nagging feeling that he had to turn around and watch over his children again.

“My dad, when he saw it, jumped in with all his clothes on under the reef and literally pulled me up by my leash and saved my life and we walked back to the hotel. We were both covered in blood from the reef. the waves were crashing into us.That's the kind of person my dad is. He dives in, full board and he just rolls his sleeves up and gets the job done. Other people are comfortable watching. He's very comfortable taking charge and I've seen him do it time and time again. This is exactly what we need right now in our country,” he said.

LOL! All of Romney heroics seem to happen on lavish family vacations! Saved his son from drowning while surfing near a reef at an undisclosed vacation spot, this is too good to be true!

Well, think of it this way. We are a big rich country that needs saving.

It isn't like we are trying to save Panama which would be equivalent to saving a family at the public fishing hole.

In case you haven't heard, Mitt Romney made a ton of money as a capitalist and bought a vacation home on the lake big enough for his whole family to get together. Is there something wrong with with spending your money to be close to your family?

Ha, nothing wrong with it unless you use it in a political campaign in which you are already being labeled with "wealthy" and "out of touch" tag lines. The left would be all over this, mocking him for his ability to own boats and jetskis. Yeah, I know you don't have to be wealthy to own that stuff, but Obama's followers would be able to critical think that far.

                            • Not to distract from the heartwarming stories of rich people using expensive toys to save other rich people, but Rassmussen has Romney down two points in Alabama to Gingritch (Santorum down one) in a statistical three way dead heat, and they have Romney up by eight in Mississippi. If Mitt wins either of those states I think Santorum and Gingritch will need to change their underwear.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

                                That's unpossible
