  • Five of Mitt Romney's family are endorsing Ron Paul...

Texas Rep. Ron Paul on Monday announced that five distant relatives of rival Mitt Romney’s family are endorsing his Republican presidential campaign.

A news release from the Paul campaign boasts of having the support of Ty Romney, Travis Romney, Chad Romney, Jared Romney and Troy Romney. Three of the Romneys — who live in Idaho — will speak on Paul’s behalf during the state’s caucuses on Tuesday.

    [...]

This isn’t the first time a family member of one of Paul’s rivals announced support for the libertarian-leaning candidate from Texas. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s nephew, John Garver, penned a column for The Daily Caller endorsing Paul.

Those 5 probably represent 0.001% of people who would qualify as Romney's distant relatives.

Hah hah good times. Some key words:

        five distant relatives
The article never goes on to say how distant.

Three of the Romneys — who live in Idaho

        • Any thoughts on Ann Romney saying they aren't rich? I watched part of the quote and there was something about poor in spirit.

Again this was the news media calling a gaffe without the whole quote I don't know if it was or not.

I just think people have to realize this thing the Romney's have about wealth might just be part of their culture. Aren't we taught to feel a bit guilty about being wealthy.

I have several friends who have a couple of homes. They seem to enjoy them, but also talk about why they have them as if they are embarassed about it.

                I hate "gotcha" politics.

But in any case, what a silly thing to say. I don't think I've made as much money in my life as the Romney's paid in tithing last year. And we are a one-income family. Yet when my kids ask me, "Dad, are we rich?", I always tell them "yes". I may go on to explain that most of the people in the world today would love to have the money and things we have, and it is even more that way when we consider an historical context.

I not sure if the OWS people realize it, but from a worldwide perspective, most of them are likely in the top 10%, if not the top 1%.

I have always told my kids no we aren't. We aren't because unlike many of their friends parents, I chose priorities like fulfilling church callings and spending quality time with the family.

After watching the video Ted posted, I think she's been done an injustice by those trying to make something out of her "I don't feel rich" statement.

EDIT: Someone transcribed what she said:

“[O]ne thing this disease has been for me has been a wonderful teacher. And with that comes an ability for compassion for others that are suffering. And for me, I want to make my family bigger. Those that are suffering from M.S. or cancer or any disease I feel like I want to throw my arms open and say, welcome to my family and welcome to the place where I’ve been and, so, you know, we can be poor in spirit and I don’t look — I don’t even consider myself wealthy which is am interesting thing. It can be here today and gone tomorrow, and how I measure riches is by the friends I have and the loved ones I have and the people I care about in my life and that is where my values are and those are my riches so for me having done through a difficult period in my life both with M.S. and with breast cancer it has done something to my heart and it’s softened my heart and made me realize there are many people suffering in this country and they are suffering from things that aren’t financial — and some people are suffering from things that are financial, as well — but those that are suffering, for me, I just have a larger capacity for love, and for understanding.”

If sounds like she was essentially saying money isn't the most important thing in the long run. When a Hollywood celebrity finally has that epiphany, the media swoon.

That was great and I am positive those calling her coments a gaffe have agenda's.

That being said, I am pretty sure the sound bite was on tape and I heard her say something to the fact "they don't feel rich."
