Of course not. That isn't the point. But the fact that he "got us talking" is a very poor way to gauge the wisdom or effectiveness of his approach.

benign? Compared to a terrorist act, I suppose so. But it is a very bad mechanism to seek to further dialogue on a race issue of this sort, IMO.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Yeah I'll call you crazy, and dumb.
He's not trying to weave a savvy masterpiece of commentary, nor should he. If he had written an op-ed piece for the Times, your complaint might be valid. He's a clumsy MacGyver using the only tools he has at hand.

I think that's closer to the truth except that this isn't the only tool he had available.

Now you're defending him. Yeah I'd say you took the Kaep thing pretty personally. Very weird. Worth a look in the mirror? Maybe.

Is it though? If it wasn't at least slightly offensive nobody would have cared enough to talk about it. I mean, it got this board talking about possible solutions to the problem, regardless of whether he presented the problem eloquently or thoroughly enough. Maybe there's one more person on CS today who thinks ending the war on drugs is a good idea, because Kap got us talking about it. It seems like it was wildly effective whether or not it was his actual wisdom that led to this.

When I go on ESPN right now and click on "49ers" there are like 50 stories on this, in like 3 days. It's got people talking about it and I think it's got people thinking about it. The problem would be, in my opinion, to let the discussion about this die. If we let it die then we prolong the time it takes to solve the problem. It all starts with discussion. There's mostly crap at first but then good ideas get circulated, cooler heads prevail, and and sometimes that leads to good policy changes.

I'm very, very happy Kap did this, and I hope more do likewise.

Yes, I did. Just as clearly as you failed to answer it.

No, I merely pointed out that your suggestion that his posts were random stats having no relationship to the thread was inaccurate and revealed that you had not bothered to read the thread in its entirety. I have no idea if the stats he cited are correct or not. But, unlike you, I read the thread and was able therefore to place his posts in context.

And doing far more damage than good along the way.

                      • This story is a big ho hum, but I don't really see the damage he is doing. So he sits down, big deal. As long as his employer is ok with it, he has the right. I don't understand why this is getting so much play. People burn the flag in protest all the time and its a blip on the local news if anything. JWs refrain from saying the pledge of allegiance, and other kids just look at them weird. This is a much to do about nothing.

                            • This is a brilliant move by Kaepernick right?

Gonna be a helluva lot harder for Chip Kelly to cut him now than it was last week.

I just wish Kaepernick would be a little more specific in his stated reasons -- the mass incarceration of AA men in this country is a huge moral failing and is definitely worthy of protest.
