Freakin' Idaho!Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I was at YM camp this week in Idaho. Driving through Cache county and on up through Smithfield and Richmond I saw an awful lot of Lyman campaign signs and zero Cox signs. I'm relived to know a lead in rural campaign signs doesn't necessarily translate to the ballot box.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the debate on Tuesday because I was at YM camp this week in Idaho.

The debate was extremely tame given Lyman's bombastic social media style. They agreed on much.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostI was at YM camp this week in Idaho. Ha. I was at YM/YW camp last week by Fairview. Lyman signs everywhere in the county but maybe not so many in Fairview as that is Cox's hometown. But everywhere I drive I see Lyman signs and only very rarely do I see Cox signs. But Cox is up 71% to 29% in the latest poll.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostI was at YM camp this week in Idaho. And .... oh by the way .... I am related to Lyman and my wife is related to his running mate.

Primary Election Day today. On my way to work I was waiting in traffic near redwood road and I could hear what sounded like someone talking outside but I couldn’t see what was going on. As I got closer to Redwood I realized it was a bunch of campaigners for Phil Lyman.
They had the usual “honk for Lyman” signs and T-Shirts and campaign signs but what was unusual is one guy had a big bullhorn that he was using to keep up a constant stream of ranting directed at the cars stuck at the stoplight:
“If you want someone who will stand up to the feds, vote for Lyman today.”
“If you think boys shouldn’t play girls sports, vote for Lyman today”
and on an on. I even heard him say the word “bullshit” once but I didn’t quite catch the subject of that bit of his rant.
From my perspective, I don’t think many people were engaging with the campaigners. I didn’t see any waving back or hear any horn honking for Lyman. People just sat in their cars and waited for the light to change while bullhorn-guy directed his rants at them. I wonder if bullhorn guy hurt Lyman more than he helped?
For the record, I don’t think boys should play girls sports but I won’t be voting for Lyman because I’m not a Republican. But even if I was a Republican I wouldn’t be voting for Lyman and would vote Spencer Cox instead.
I look forward to voting for Cox in the general election.

I look forward to changing my voting registration to another party after voting in this primary so the GOP here can whine about it.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostI won’t be voting for Lyman because I’m not a Republican. I'm visiting Salt Lake this week and I have been amazed at the number of Lyman signs throughout Sandy and Draper areas. I don't know if Cox has signs or doesn't need them, but I don't think I've seen a single Cox sign or ad. Maybe because everyone already knows him as the incumbent.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostPrimary Election Day today. Staggs and Lyman, Trumps people go down. Looks like Maloy will hold on. She was endorsed by Trump and Cox. Mike Lee Endorsed her opponent. Kennedy won UT-3 and was Mike Lee endorsed. But the Governor and Romney seats were the high profile races and seemed to rile up the NAGA folks the most.

And my neighbor, Tracy Miller, is currently leading in the Republican primary 55% to 44% for Utah House 45. Not sure if all the votes are in but I doubt that 11 point gap is going to get made up.
Tracy is a great person, smart, honest, hard-working, rational. I don't know a ton about her opponent but based on his campaign site it seems like he was also a decent dude. I don't see evidence of him being a Trumpist. Rational candidates in the Republican primary gives me hope that the Republican Party can get over their vile Trumpism some day.

Maloy was only endorsed by Trump because the Speaker of the House went to bat for her and pleaded with Trump to endorse her in an effort to offset Lee's endorsement of Jenkins and thus protect a reliable voting member of the current Republican establishment. I think she is a solid Representative and has demonstrated sound wisdom in her short tenure. She won mostly because of the power of incumbency-such as support from folks within the establishment. Lee supported Jenkins and he tried to run to the right of Maloy and criticize her votes, specifically on budgets, where she voted for solutions that kept the government functioning. I knew Colby Jenkins well 30 years ago as our time at West Point overlapped one year. I was surprised he took the angle he did and tried to outMaga Maloy-I think it was just a political ploy to win the Republican Primary and not really him. But given that Maloy is a solid and wise Representative who understands the nature of split government and prioritizes some level of a functioning government over chaos that was his only available angle that might result in him winning. I am convinced he would have been a fine Representative as well, but I can't say I am disappointed he lost even though I know him and we share a great deal in common.Originally posted by USUC View PostStaggs and Lyman, Trumps people go down. I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.
