I also learned about leveraged ETFs and put some throwaway money into UPRO (a 3x S&P fund) just to see what happens.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

BRK.B seems like a "buy and hold long-term" (e.g. 10+ years) kind of stock, no? Not the kind one would want to trade.Originally posted by Copelius View PostSo I am thinking about making an offer to Warren Buffett. Pay me a million dollars and I will never buy Berkshire Hathaway stock again. Everytime I have thought it may be a good idea to get into that particular stock, it starts declining within a couple of days of investing and basically stays down for quite a while until I lose patience and sell at a minor loss or as soon as I get back to my basis. It has happened again. Bought in May and down almost 6%. Sorry to any other investors in BRKB, but I am going to wait it out this time. Anyone who wants their BRKB to get back off the snide, my offer is open to you as well.

A buddy and I built our own "ETF" with tax-deferred money that we can trade freely without tax consequences. Two years in we are averaging 30% annual ROI (knock on wood). BRK B and NVIDIA are in the mix."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I realized that after the last round and am in it long term. I just thought it was kind of funny that now that I am committed, it is still doing the same that it did the last few times. I am mostly index ETF as well. I just need a few individuals for the gambling fix.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View Post

SpaceX IPO Today: Investors Await Historic Test of Market
Investors are glued to their screens as the biggest IPO ever is poised to begin trading
Welcome to SpaceX Day.
The rocket maker is set to make its stock-market debut in the largest IPO ever—and perhaps the most closely watched. The stock will trade under the ticker SPCX.

I put in for 75 shares and got my full allotment. I was surprised to get the full allotment, which hopefully doesn't foreshadow any future declines in the price since usually that means demand was low. It'll be an interesting stock to watch on the heels of other AI stocks that plan to IPO. I do like that Musk opened up a larger allotment to us pedestrian investors since we usually are left to buy in the secondary market after the banks have taken their IPO bump fee..."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Most of us will be SPCX shareholders, if only indirectly so, as Musk is pushing hard to have it included in pretty much every index fund and ETF possible, providing substantial price support for the stock and his net worth going forward.

Yeah, I have zero FOMO for not buying shares today for this reason.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostMost of us will be SPCX shareholders, if only indirectly so, as Musk is pushing hard to have it included in pretty much every index fund and ETF possible, providing substantial price support for the stock and his net worth going forward."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? SPCX will be an interesting stock to follow in the coming months in part because it has unusual lock-up provisions. Typically, a company's insiders, including all major pre-IPO investors, must agree to a 180-day lock-up before selling their shares, with key officers often being forced to hold much longer. The market overhang for SPCX is the largest in history. Musk has a one-year lock-up, but the lock-up release for other SPCX investors is staged over time, with a lot of shares being released beginning after the company's Q2 "earnings" announcement, probably by the end of next month, rather than near the end of the year as would be the case with a standard 180-day lock-up.

I've been a fan of SpaceX the company but the stock itself is beyond overpriced. The market cap exceeds the top 10 defense contractors combined. Based on the company financial structure, public shareholders have little to no say at all - it's Elon's baby to control. I don't begrudge Elon whatever wealth he lawfully gains, but I don't see a reason to simply put money into his pocket.
But what do I know? It's already up 27% since it started trading a couple hours ago.

Musk stapled a failing AI company (that is part of the most massive industry bubble in history that is overdue to pop) to a social media company he destroyed, then stapled that Frankenstein's monster of an "AI" company to very impressive but loss leading rocket technology. I can see why people are all in!!
It seems the only things Musk touches that are profitable anymore are Tesla (but revenue is shrinking) and Starlink (but it is overwhelmed by massive losses in the larger SpaceXAI conglomerate). I can't wait until he staples the Boring Company on to SpaceX and tells us we are going to drill and hyperloop our way to Mars. There will be plenty of fanboys who believe it. Starlink is profitable and SpaceX's technology is visionary. But massive losses combined with Musk being all in on the AI circle jerk has to yield disaster for this venture.

I saw someone link to a WSJ article that UNC and Wash U have at least 10% of their endowments invested in SpaceX.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostI've been a fan of SpaceX the company but the stock itself is beyond overpriced. FYI, it might be semantics but this IPO didn’t make Musk a trillionaire. Wasn’t he already a trillionaire? This just puts a more definitive value on his SPCX holdings."Discipleship is not a spectator sport.
