MP: I have friends who adopted in Utah and there's a waiting period of 6 months or 1 year where the bio mom can change her mind and get the kid back. (They didn't seal the child to them until this day passed.)
With this provision, it doesn't sound like the State of UT sees an adoption as the firm cessation of parental rights- at least for the mother. And if the mother is given 1 year to change her mind, doesn't it follow that during that 1 year the fathers can come out of the woodwork?
Once parental rights are terminated there isn't a waiting period. the adoption takes time to finalize but the termination is immediate and cannot be revoked.

It would suck for the adoptive parents for sure if they were to lose the baby to the birth father. However, they are anxious to have children and able and willing to put up the money to become parents. You'd like to think they'd understand the bio father's case. Instead of keeping his child from him, maybe try to work things out so he can be the father he was planning and preparing to be to this child and they can adopt another baby. I don't understand why it would be better for the baby to stay with the adoptive parents. It's a newborn for crying out loud. He doesn't know any better. From the looks of it, everyone was preparing for this baby. It's not like he's a deadbeat and all of the sudden wants to be the dad. What she did was wrong...so very wrong. I hope he gets his child back.

I agree what mom did was wrong. It was consistent with utah law but it is morally wrong. The reason I think it is better not to disturb the placement is the child won't have a mom. Not in the sense that he is in a broken home or his parents are not married but legally there is no mom. No child support, no visitation, no obligations for former mom. By the time this is done the child won't be a newborn anymore.

So this is the same one I posted that link of in the D-news. She had a son that was 13 months old she left him with a boyfriend while she was at work something happened and the son suffered serious internal injuries and died. The medical examiner said he had new injuries to his intestines as well as past injuries that were healing. The boyfriend was found not guilty of murder but guilty of obstruction of justice. Very shady situation.
Mom gets pregnant again and has another daughter who is now 2 that she has kept and is taking care of.
Then she gets pregnant a 3rd time (3 different guys) and gives it up for adoption without the fathers consent. This girl is only 22 years old!

It is the same woman? I thought it had to have been a coincidence because the kids were so close together in age.

Yeesh. Giving this child up for adoption may be the most responsible thing this girl has done.

The girl that had my sisters kids had the 1st one at 15. Then she had two more that she kept and when she found out that she was pregnant for the 4th time, asked sis if she wanted that one. The same kid was the father of all 4 and as far a I know has never the birth parents have never lived together let alone been married.
As an aside, sis' relationship with the my cousin has been worked out and all is well now. It was a little touchy for the 1st 3 or 4 ys though. It might help the the cousin lives in Elko

Interesting that a woman can abort the baby with the father's consent, but can't give it up for adoption without his consent (if he is "known").

Ok you guys are refering to the mothers rights. What about the dad? Utah fathers have to sign away their rights if the mom wants to have an abortion but if the mom wants to give the baby up then he has no say unless they are married. Its messed up. Good Luck to all the dads who want their kids but have no say in if they get them.
Utah actually has a reputation as being an "adoption friendly" state for unwed mothers, and while I don't know how much it still happens - I do know that there was a time when a number of young single pregnant women would specifically come to Utah to give birth because it was easier to proceed with adoption without having to worry about the Dad or Dad's rights.
I believe that this has changed some, and that there is now a means for fathers to assert their rights - but it is time limited and as I understand it is supposed to take place before the baby's birth. I guess the assumption is that if the guy has been involved with the Mom he should know that she is pregnant. If it was a one night stand, then maybe they don't care so much about him.
For the record - I recall there being a couple of lawsuits in which fathers were attempting to get children back who had been adopted. I don't recall the results - but it's uncommon. Very uncommon.
And I'm afraid, as Donuthole stated, that often it is the paternal grandparents who are more interested in getting the kid back than the father.

Yeah, no. That's the whole point of Roe v. Wade.

No the point with Roe v. Wade was that the mother wanted to have an abortion, the only way to do that though was if she were raped. This is not the case with baby jack.

That whole family wants Jackson back. But Jake wants him back more, the family is supportive of Jake. And it must be a very heart-wrenching time in the families lives, I would think.
