I think it is in poor taste too. BD, can you come up with something less suggestive of fellatio?

      Early report: he's crazy.

(Now I'm too distracted by his repeated mispronunciation of 'inalienable')

FWIW, the "man is the measure of all things" line didn't come out of the French enlightenment - it's from an ancient Greek philosopher named Protagoras.

This is the second time recently where I've come across a condemnation of the humanism of the Renaissance/Enlightenment and a yearning for the church-state "harmony" of the Middle Ages (an "invented tradition" if there ever was one). Makes me scratch my head, esp. when the founders of the USA are held up as anti-Enlightenment Christians.

It's interesting how close some of his arguments are to Skousen's 5,000 Year Leap. So much of that early 1980s rhetoric was rooted so strongly in the Cold War that it seems foreign and dated today.

      Final report: chilling.

There's an element of extremism and fanaticism in this message that scares me.
I was talking about the "How Should We Live" one, if that's the Christian manifesto then, yes.

the dude is so whacked I don't know what to make of it. It scared me too, that's for sure. To think that many evangelicals Bachman's age and younger have been influenced by this guy just makes my stomach sick, especially so considering the fact that evangelical politics basically originated with Schaeffer and his world view.

What stood out to me was his analysis of the early Christian church and its purity, claiming that there were no syncretisms whatsoever. It's clear to anyone with even a cursory knowledge of ancient Christianity that many, many syncretisms creeped in as early as 100 A.C. Humans are, by nature, syncretic beings.

I confess the fellatio angle evaded me. I've lived rather a sheltered life.

BD, would you mind changing back to the fellatio version? That robotic stare gives me the creeps. TIA.

Finally a single redeeming quality in the woman. Or the off chance of one.

Nothing freaks out liberal men more than a strong charismatic conservative woman who begins to develop a following. Maggie Thatcher was the first. Irrational hatred for her persists to this day.
