I agree. Do you think they took the picture right as she said "corn"?"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Considering some of her responses in the debate the other night that avatar is appropriate. She (and Tim Pawlenty, the Mittster, and a few others to lesser a extent) has her lips firmly attached to and is excitedly smoking, the respective poles of those who are pushing for war with Syria and Iran.Originally posted by Borderline Divine View PostWhen Newsweek runs my avatar on the cover get back to me.
I am sick and tired of people trying to establish their 'Conservative Cred' by banging the war drum, a thought that should be appalling to a true conservative with strong libertarian tendencies, but is now somehow one of the tenets of the movement.

Who exactly in the debate was calling for war against Syria and Iran? I thought I watched the whole thing, but I must have missed it.Originally posted by NorthwestUteFan View PostConsidering some of her responses in the debate the other night that avatar is appropriate. Come to think of it, I haven't heard of anyone wanting to fight Syria and Iran. Maybe you were just being hyperbolic."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

She will be in my city Wednesday for a fundraiser. If the CUF collective can contribute $500, I can get close enough to shake her hand and find out once and for all if she is a dumb-dumb.

I am probably confusing various quotes surrounding the events in Iowa with the actual debate statements, but I recall a significant amount of saber rattling. (Now that I think more about it, Rick Santorum may have been one of the most vocal in this manner)Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostWho exactly in the debate was calling for war against Syria and Iran? Statements like "All options are on the table", "Iran is a threat to America", and the like remind me of the run-up to the war in Iraq. It is a continuation of the "Get 'em before they get us!" mentality, and it drives me nuts. And it is bankrupting the nation. I am also disgusted by any candidate who supports maintaining a undeclared war. If a war is worth pursuing and it truly in the interest of the nation, get Congress to declare war to authorize it!

The "Christian Manifesto" video? I'm listening to it now.Originally posted by pellegrino View Posthave you seen that Schaeffer video? I watched/listened to the first two parts on youtube. I'd be interested in your take on it.
I just have to say that I will never vote for an evangelical. Their worldview is far too different from mine.
Early report: he's crazy.
(Now I'm too distracted by his repeated mispronunciation of 'inalienable')
FWIW, the "man is the measure of all things" line didn't come out of the French enlightenment - it's from an ancient Greek philosopher named Protagoras.
This is the second time recently where I've come across a condemnation of the humanism of the Renaissance/Enlightenment and a yearning for the church-state "harmony" of the Middle Ages (an "invented tradition" if there ever was one). Makes me scratch my head, esp. when the founders of the USA are held up as anti-Enlightenment Christians.
It's interesting how close some of his arguments are to Skousen's 5,000 Year Leap. So much of that early 1980s rhetoric was rooted so strongly in the Cold War that it seems foreign and dated today.
Final report: chilling.
There's an element of extremism and fanaticism in this message that scares me."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

I agree about the message. According to my evangelical-blogger, the majority of his group (evangelicals) think the younger Schaeffer is a nut at worst, misguided at best. I am no expert on evangelical thinking and no fan of it either, but I have learned that they're not a monolithic bunch.Originally posted by Solon View PostThe "Christian Manifesto" video? This makes me smile because I agree and actually think that a person's religion is a fair reason to vote against them when it represents a world view too far removed from one's own. Apply that to Romney and it is religious bigotry in the eyes of many. But I don't think they would feel that way without a dog in the fight.Originally posted by pellegrino View Posthave you seen that Schaeffer video?
