    Utah already requires voter ID.

It has been in place since 2009.

I've voted by mail the last several elections by mail so I'm not sure this mattered much

They haven't been great with it. I'm not sure I'd tout them as a beacon of freedom. Their government only controls part of the capitol city with AU and UN troops helping.

They scored an 8 out of 100 on the freedom index. Russia requires it too and their government does hate democracy

Australia and NZ and I believe Canada and UK don't require one

Pretty wild that 70% of Democrats are racist.

I have a dumb question. If someone is homeless how do they establish residency to determine which precinct in which they vote?

I believe it is usually based on the location of the last known shelter. Most homeless people will use a shelter as their address as that is where all their subsidized housing and other documents they need that the shelter has done for them. They get funding for assisting in this area as well as housing.

                  Not a dumb question.

Typically it gets handled through homeless shelters, and that becomes the address or the post office where collect their general mail. You can receive your mail via general delivery where the post office gets in under your name

Not having an address makes it virtually impossible to get a job (which believe it or not about half of homeless people are employed). So this is something services are good at helping with.

Voting is already an exclusive right given only to participants that meet certain eligibility criteria (age, residency, citizenship, criminal history). I don't see any significant downside or unreasonable burden in ensuring that participants demonstrate eligibility. Like if voting had never existed before and we were building a system from scratch, we'd require ID right?

This Tulsi Gabbard leading a weird parade to Fulton Co. Georgia to grab a bunch of info is not a good sign for upcoming elections. It's a bigger story than it's being treated as.

I still struggle with what voter ID entails, and what people mean when they support it. My main question is when and where do you present your ID? What constitutes official ID? Not just at in-person voting, but registering. And is it required when you update your registration? If anyone has fleshed out their thoughts about this I'd like to hear it.

In the meantime, I found this website useful. It's not just voting, hence the 'lbgt'. I assume you can guess which side of the spectrum they are on with most issues, but as far as I can tell the data they present is unbiased:

                        https://www.lgbtmap.org/democracy-maps/in_person_voting

It breaks down multiple issues by state (registration, ID requirements, mail-in voting, etc.). As to the simplest question of ID requirements to vote in person, only 17 states require ID before voting, 13 of which require picture ID. The next group, where ID is requested but not required, that's 19 states, a lot of which are red ones (including Texas and Florida). 14 states plus D.C. do not require ID for in person voting, though all of them previously verify registration by differing means (California and NY are included here).

I suppose another big question is requiring proof of citizenship before registering to vote. Only four states have that requirement, which account for 4% of the US population.

There's a lot of good info on pretty much any topic related to voting in the US. Have at it.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

What are you talking about? I called Miller and Bannon racist, not every person who supports voter ID.

You misread my posts quite frequently.

71% of Democrats support requiring a photo ID for voting. it was on CNN a few days ago. 83% of Americans overall.

I get that. I am saying Miller and Bannon's grand plan which involves happily making voting more difficult is racist. Those guys are racist and all about the Great Replacement theory.

I did not say or mean supporters of Voter ID laws are all racist.
