Voter ID Question

The difference, at least from what I gather is the dems are concerned about FUTURE voter suppression. It's hard to show proof of something that hasn't happened yet, but could. repubs are concerned about PAST voter fraud. It is not so difficult to show evidence of fraud if it happened, yet repubs offer only fables, and nothing that stands up even the least amount of scrutiny.Originally posted by USUC View PostGive 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Yup. Trump et al. have expended millions of dollars and thousands of hours trying to uncover fraud in Atlanta, including improper phone calls, multiple recounts, trips to the election centers by Trump staffers, blatantly false videos (the laughable 2,000 Mules by a convicted election cheat), losing multiple defamation and slander suits brought by Atlanta election workers and Dominion, etc., and they have yet to turn up any significant fraud or errors. With nearly 200,000 precincts and many hundreds of thousands of precinct workers nationwide, even Inspector Clouseau could uncover an occasional error or cheat. Trump has achieved one goal however: the undermining of confidence in our system, creating a belief that we need a savior to rise about the system. As he has assured us, only he can save us.Originally posted by myboynoah View Post

Here's some voter fraud. Keep on mind, MAGA vociferously condemns/accuses opponents of doing the very thing of which they are guilty or planning to do themselves.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View Post

Not less, just not more. It's seen as a cumbersome solution to a non-existent problem, that when implemented so quickly and sloppily could absolutely influence the outcome of elections.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostIt's true that the nightmares of both sides on the question of voter i.d. are overstated,. And it's interesting, and against type, that the solution for many on the right is more regulation and for many on the left it's less,
Many of these unfounded GOP fear revolve illegally immigrant voting en masse, for the democrats.
Republicans like Lee are pushing to end the filibuster for this non-urgent matter. Again, I think the Trump admin should be viewed through the default lens of less trustworthy than any other governing group in most of our lifetimes. To me, that's informed by their past and current behaviors.

I think the filibuster gets removed by the Repubs this term or the Dems next term. It is going to happen in the next 4 years. No one is willing to work with anyone anymore, so the parties are going to remove it and we the people are going to be treated like a yo-yo going forward. I don't want it, but I feel like the military is gonna get involved if there's any perfidy in November.Originally posted by The_Tick View Post

That's been the plan Trump advisors suggested in 2020 was to use the military to seize voting machines etc. I'm not sure why we'd expect them not to try. MAGA is not restrained by norms or morality.Originally posted by wuapinmon View Post

The state department has ordered libraries to quit processing passports. How convenient they do this now.

I'm not sure I follow why this is convenient now. To get a passport, you need a birth certificate. If you have a birth certificate, you can register to vote under the proposed law. Why would someone go to the trouble to get a passport so they can register to vote when they already have the documents necessary to register to vote?Originally posted by frank ryan View PostThe state department has ordered libraries to quit processing passports. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Nonprofit-run libraries. It's still bullshit, but government-owned libraries can still process applications.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostThe state department has ordered libraries to quit processing passports. How convenient they do this now.

Another chicken little cherry picking of a news article to make things sound more insidious than they are..Originally posted by frank ryan View PostThe state department has ordered libraries to quit processing passports. How convenient they do this now.

A State Department spokesperson said the order was given because federal law and regulations "clearly prohibit non-governmental organizations" from collecting and retaining fees for a passport application. Government-run libraries are not impacted.
