We'll see what happens when the League of Women Voters of Mass. gets before SCOTUS. For now, section 3 (the part dealing with the Post Office) is still enjoined.

I think most of us realize Trump would really like to cheat however he can. How much he can succeed in affecting the results is probably minimal, IMO. I don't think the redistricting is going to help all that much because he has lost a lot of support even among his base and there is a pretty decent amount of discontent in rural areas. Republican reps even in deep red districts won't do town halls anymore because of it. And if he tries having ICE show up at voting places I think it will piss most people off and backfire big time. But I do tend to be optimistic.

A frustrating pattern I see with SCOTUS in these Trump overreach cases is that they know full well that ultimately they won't hold up Constitutionally but they overrule the blocks of lower courts, very often put in by conservative judges to temporarily allow Trump to overstep his authority for months until it finally gets defeated on merit. I get that they will make a procedural argument for that. What is annoying is that they didn't usually do that under the last dem president and probably won't under the next.

My preference would be for the courts to knock down unconstitutional executive overreach every time, regardless of what party the president is. The executive branch is way too powerful, far beyond what the founders would have wanted. I mean, they risked everything and fought a war to not have kings.

I understand the sentiment. But like birthright citizenship, the Constitutional issue here is pretty clear: states administer elections and there is no role at all defined for the executive branch, not even by statute. That said, Thomas and Alito have shown they will probably try to find a way to give the middle finger to the Constitution in the service of Trump and to keep their billionaire benefactors happy. But IMO the votes still aren't there among the full 9 to side with Trump on the merits on this one when it comes down to it.
