I can corroborate. However, Orrin started out with some dough from his time as a trial attorney. He also had a swanky pad up in Olympus Cove that he sold when he was elected. When he became a senator he bought a decent sized house in Vienna Virginia that appreciated considerably through the years. He also had a nice condo in downtown SLC that is probably worth four times or more times the purchase price. That property is still in the family.

It's estimated he was worth just shy of five million when he died. While I'm sure Orrin got some good investment advice he wasn't pulling a Harry Reid. A good investment guy could easily turn over what he had when he was elected into what he had when he died.

Don't forget Orrin's relationship with the recording industry. I mean his albums were great and all.

So boomer. He should have just issued his own bitcoin, $hatch. It's no $melania.
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

That is a perfectly reasonable amount. Good for him.

Maybe I'm weird but I don't hater either Orrin Hatch or Harry Reid.
Reid did a lot of good things for the church and helped convert a different senator. He has been a good advocate for some communities that are under represented and he pushed for transparency on UFO stuff!
Hatch had some great moments of bipartisanship. I was disappointed when he went all in the Trump mythology.
                I voted for Hatch before
I didn't like the stuff he did with MLM stuff but he was great on insurance for kids and food stamps. He was also demonstrably friend with Ted Kennedy.

When I wrote about his swanky home in Olympus Cove I was referring to the mid-seventies. I drove past that house a few months ago and by today's standards, it's not swanky at all. Great view though.

Congressman Robert Garcia, ladies and gentlemen:

This followed his speech in committee in which he commemorated MTG's showing a dick pick last year with showing one of his own: a photo of Musky.

All these weird tariffs and massive layoffs of gov workers are going to f with the economy.
The federal gov is the biggest employer in a lot places. Couple that with a lot of other programs being dependent of government grants and funds, including state and local ones, non-profits etc, small businesses. When those people are out of work they aren't going to go out to eat, shop etc. Tariffs will make things wildly more expensive.
At what point does MAGA start shedding followers?

I don't know all the inside baseball of Utah politics like you do but I know a little. I remember consistently hearing that Hatch and Matheson did the best at helping and working for their constituents.

I do wish for more bipartisan times. I've gotten to know a family member of one of the last influential democrats in the state. He used to encourage his kids and grandkids to go into politics. He would regularly meet up with Republican legislators for lunch etc.
They were his friends. But about right around the time of Trump's ascendancy, he started encouraging family members to stay out of that world.
