Absolutely gorgeous, NWC. I'm happy for you.

Let's not stop at Canada but include Mexico as well. Then we could just build a small border wall on their southern border.

          That'd be great ...
          • Another 54, or 55 electoral votes for a "state" that would vote overwhelmingly Democrat and not just your garden variety liberal policy advancing legislators
          • Another 52 - 53 Bernie Sanders and AOC ideologically bent Democrats as "state" representatives.
          • Of course one or two if not all representatives, as a matter of human rights, would be required to speak French representing 85% of the 558k population in Quebec that only speaks French.
          • Plus how would this new voting block of representatives affect legislation around abortion and euthanasia which are both vehemently protected rights in Canada
          boom baby—love the idea

Yeah, clearly the main problem with this idea is that if you annex Canada, you would have to take Canadians too.

I mostly love Alberta folks. However, when it comes to the Quebecois I couldn't agree more. In spite of my hero worship of Mario Lemieux, my experience is that they are dirty hockey players, try too hard to be French.

Ironic considering the most similar to Americans are the Quebecois.

Southern Alberta people are salt of the earth.

Quebecois are a different breed, but most of the pur laine quebecois I met while living in Montreal were super nice people. They were more than friendly and accommodating to us Anglais. They just live a different lifestyle than the rest of Canada, which in some instances is a decent way to live. When you learn to spend 3 hours at a restaurant for dinner, you start to see the appeal of living there.

Obviously the USA will never annex Canada but it's fun to joke about.

Your bullet about requiring representatives to speak French is hilarious. Why on earth would anyone care about the "human rights" of 558K wanna-be Frenchies? Heck, there are tens of millions of people in the USA that only speak Spanish, and millions more that only speak some other language, and nobody gives a flying crap about their "human rights" enough to require that representatives speak in those languages.

It would be treated like Hawaiian. It's an official language of Hawaii, but Haole Henriettas get very offended when it's used in public meetings.

Your post could not be more American. LOL Again, it's a great idea, genius in fact!

I think it's really more about attending to the sensitivities to those in Quebec so they don't revolt and bounce, either through legal means or violence (there has a been a history separatist terrorism in the past in Quebec).

The Quebecois are playing the long game now, pursuing their political objectives, not by traditional terrorist means, but by encouraging reckless indulgence in poutine (I spent a few days in Quebec this past summer and I could feel my arteries clogging).

                                Seriously, Quebec City is amazing.
