  • Gladwell's reputation and trust should no doubt take a hit. Cowing typically means being compelled to stay silent. He didn't stay silent. If I'm too take him at his word, he spoke counter to his personally held beliefs.

However, it is important that people who just go where the political winds take them are now speaking out. It means on this particular issue, some sanity is returning.

Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

It doesn't with me. He is also not some extremist transphobia person, which is why he opinion merits more consideration

            • Here is the tl;dr summary:

The author argues that early on in this trans ideology era, almost everyone knew and believed that much of what was being said was complete nonsense. However, for many of them, the social cost of pushing back was too high, so they kept silent. At the same time, they privately encouraged people like the author to fight the good fight. She is resentful of that, because they wanted people like her who were less wealthy and less famous to be on the front lines taking the brunt of the fire while the rich and famous sat back and watched, not taking any risks. Now that more people are willing to say the emperor has no clothes, there is less of a social or financial cost, so these folks have suddenly found their courage - Gladwell being a prime example: he openly admits to knowing the truth before, but he was "cowed" (his word) into not speaking that truth. Kudos to him for coming around, but I can see her point.

              • J.K. Rowling has been fighting the good fight mostly by herself. Glad to see others stepping up.

It sounds like the author would substitute "cowed" with "coward".
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

The big item from the Olympics was the boxing debate. The World Boxing Federation has made the move as well, requiring gender testing prior to sanction events.

                            • This is such a weird exchange. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that people not only think it's okay for a male to have unfettered access to a women's locker room, but that those opposing the idea are intolerant.

A couple of thoughts. In Nellie Bowles book, "Morning After the Revolution: Dispatches from the Wrong Side of History," she discusses a phenomena she saw when attending various BLM/Antifa meetings. When people introduced themselves they'd identify the characteristics that gave them authority. Something like I'm Brenda and I'm a black transgender woman with neurodivergent traits. She called it an oppression hiearchy. When an argument broke out they'd repeat their creds and ultimately the person with the most characteristics would win by default. I'm not sure if that actually worked, but this video seems to confirm.

Whenever I see stuff like this I'm reminded of William F. Buckley's famous quote, "“A conservative is someone who stands athwart history, yelling Stop, at a time when no one is inclined to do so, or to have much patience with those who so urge it.” So here a a black lesbian woman talks about getting assaulted in a locker room by a male and a California state senator responds by reminding her that a transwoman is a woman. Yeah. Stop.

                              • I am reminded of a bit by Dave Chapelle on transgender. He spoke about if he ever was to be sent to Prison, he would want to go to prison in California where he could immediately state he was a woman and request to be sent to a women’s prison. It was crude ending where he essentially spoke about his male part as a woman and bullied women in prison to do things. This is the Pandora’s box that has been opened along with all the males winning competitions that so many belittled and deduced to trivial rants.

Like YO, I cannot comprehend nor will I ever accept males who identify as woman in girls/women’s spaces.

The complete and total flip of trying to be sensitive to a male saying he is a female and therefore should have access to a woman’s locker room is outright dangerous. I find it relatable to sexual assault or indecent-exposure. These individuals should be arrested and prosecuted. Call me whatever you want but. Girls being forced to undress or watch a male undress with all of his dick out is traumatizing when it is not consenting. Period.

The fact there has not been any criminal prosecution to this is how ass backwards our society has become on this. I cannot imagine the level of trauma girls have endured over this shit. All reason has been thrown out the window.
