The political party out of power always complains about the abuse of power by those in power. But when they themselves obtain power, they weild it as retribution. The Bush Jr administration really doesn't get the derision it deserves for accelerating all of this.

Yeah, I don't like the Trump administration doing this with federal research funding. Too heavy-handed. And it sets a precedent that could swing the other way.

If you invent a weapon to use on your enemy, all you need to do is wait a while before it gets used on you. and usually after your enemy has put their own embellishments on it.

Funny, I always hear that Obama was the accelerator? I guess if you lean one way or the other politically, you probably tend to blame the other party for "making things worse."

              Weird how that happens.

That's a weak justification for petty and harmful policy. Trump/MAGA runs on outrage and projection.

This is more the just embelliments on previous behaviors, Wally, this kind of shit is unprecedented. Democrats didn't do this performative shit. Previous Republican administrations didn't do this kind of shit.

It's almost like you think Obama was just like Trump or something. It's because MAGA is actively, and to a degree making things worse. Both sides aren't equally and exactly the same. Trump is not the same as his predecessors in his own party.

I certainly don't lean towards the Democratic Party. Obama no doubt abused executive power and stoked the flames of the culture war, but the seismic shift away from executive restraint, which had been the norm since Nixon, came from the Bush Jr administration justified by the war on terror. It's also not a coincidence that the two most instrumental architects of this were also a part of the Nixon administration (Cheney and Rumsfeld).

                      • This seems like a really big deal. Yesterday the UK supreme court ruled that only biological women (and not trans women) meet the legal definition of women under the law. And that sex is binary.

The court's five judges issued an 88-page judgment. In it, they say the "concept of sex is binary, a person is either a woman or a man."

"The unanimous decision of this court is that the terms 'woman' and 'sex'… refer to a biological woman and biological sex," Judge Patrick Hodge, deputy president of the Supreme Court, told the court Wednesday, summarizing the ruling.

It is a big deal, and I agree whole heartedly with them. It seems like an easy concept to comprehend.

                          • I’m not curious enough to read through 88 pages to find out., but I’m slightly curious how they address intersex situations. I guess individuals would have to go by what was chosen by the doctor or parents at birth?
