More nuance and tact will be necessary. The vast majority of Americans have strong opinions on only two things relates to trans issues. That minor children and teenagers should not undergo potentially permanent treatment and that males at birth should not compete in women's sports. And those two things happen to be the primary focus of trans rights activists. To say anything against this has been verboten by the activist class. But they have now lost their ability to control the discussion.

Stuff like this is extremely counter productive to any discussion of trans issues.

LOL... That White Dude for Harris guy just wants to die on the hill of delusion rather than listen to any other options. That's OK. With his help this is what the map will look like in 2028 when Vance is running for president:

"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.

    • The Supreme Court is hearing arguments today regarding the Tennessee ban on gender affirming medical treatment. Will be interesting to see what happens here, though I'll be shocked if they overturn the ban. Kind of cool that the attorney arguing against the ban is trans.

Note that it's not a blanket ban on "gender affirming medical treatment" (I hate that term, it's yet another example of manipulation of language to suit a progressive agenda). The ban is specifically on "gender affirming medical treatment" for minors. In other words, if Bruce Jenner lives in Tennessee and is of age and wants to become Kaitlin Jenner, they are free to do so.

          Important point. Thank you.

This is an issue that's pretty frustrating for me because I see so little room for compromise. Not that I'm closed to some sort of compromise, but I just don't see how it can be done even amongst reasonable people. I listen to the arguments in support of gender affirming medical treatment for minors and they just don't resonate. Not just on a political level, but it goes against my entire social/spiritual/emotional/parental worldview. I have absolute sympathy and compassion for children with gender dysphoria, but I think it's utterly cruel to tell them that they're born in the wrong body. Even more cruel to tell them that the only hope they have for mental wellbeing is to undergo expensive, experimental medical treatment with incredibly inconsistent outcomes that will, in most cases, result in permanent sexual disfunction, sterilization and a lifetime of medical intervention. Yet there are very good, compassionate people who think the exact opposite. To them the cruel thing is to deny kids this treatment. These aren't mere differences of opinion, rather core societal values and I don't know how we move forward in a functional manner.

It's also difficult to ignore the influence of the pharmaceutical industry and the potential billions to be made from expanding the patient population demographic. Reading the WPATH files this past Spring was kind of a defining moment for me on this issue. Even at my most cynical I didn't think the approach of educated medical professionals would be this bad and demonstrate such poor judgment. Strongly recommend reading.

In the fantastic podcast "Witch Trials of JK Rowling" the host asked her something like 'what if you're wrong on this issue?'. I'm sure this is a question she's thought about. She's a generational feminist icon and lifetime liberal and now finds herself on the same side as right-wing American Christian Trump-loving conservatives. Her response has stuck with me. Something like 'If I'm wrong, then hallelujah. Nobody has been physically harmed. But what if my detractors are wrong? How are children going to get their body parts, puberty, and confidence in institutions back?"

          • A while back, the UK issued a temporary ban on puberty blockers for minors due to evidence showing harm and little benefit. Today they made that ban indefinite.

            https://www.gov.uk/government/news/b...experts-advice

Existing emergency measures banning the sale and supply of puberty-suppressing hormones will be made indefinite, following official advice from medical experts.

The Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) has provided independent expert advice that there is currently an unacceptable safety risk in the continued prescription of puberty blockers to children. It recommends indefinite restrictions while work is done to ensure the safety of children and young people.
This is the UK, which is typically left of the US on issues. Why in the hell is this so controversial in the US?

            • Following Trump EO yesterday, the NCAA implemented an official ban on biological men competing in NCAA women's sports.

              https://www.espn.com/college-sports/...xecutive-order

Look at how they changed their tune:

"We strongly believe that clear, consistent, and uniform eligibility standards would best serve today's student-athletes instead of a patchwork of conflicting state laws and court decisions," NCAA president Charlie Baker said. "To that end, President Trump's order provides a clear, national standard."
Also, some new investigations are launched:

The Trump administration is investigating potential civil rights violations at two universities and a high school sports league that allowed transgender athletes to compete on women's teams, the Education Department said Thursday.

The agency is opening reviews at San Jose State, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

The Education Department said it opened the cases over suspected violations of Title IX, the 1972 law barring sex discrimination in education. Opening an inquiry isn't meant to indicate a finding of wrongdoing, according to department policy. Additionally, the agency said it is reviewing athletics policies at a number of other schools.

San Jose State is being investigated over a player's participation on the women's volleyball team. A lawsuit filed by players against the Mountain West Conference argued that letting her compete poses a safety risk, but San Jose State has not confirmed it has a transgender woman on the volleyball team.

The investigation at Penn focuses on Lia Thomas, who swam on the women's team and was the first openly transgender athlete to win a Division I title in 2022. Thomas graduated that year.

According to the Education Department, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association allowed a transgender athlete to compete on a girls' high school basketball team, prompting an opposing team to forfeit after three players were reportedly injured. The department did not identify the schools or give further details.
Pretty stunning turnaround. This will be a huge PR win for Trump.

                • I hate to think about the methods that would be used to investigate whether an athlete was transgender.

I imagine that particular task is relegated to junior members on the team.

                    • And states are lining up to ignore the EO on this issue. This is going to set a fantastic precedence.

Well, when they bitch about the "woke mind virus," it dismisses the idea that they are actually talking about people.

I'm guessing this is a tacky joke but I can't tell.

Most of the country seems to be pretty on board with this.

                              • Staggering is right. Show me one other issue that 79% of Americans agree on. I'll wait.
