I assure you it can get worse.

I have a mantra that I live by. “Never challenge worse.”

Yeah I'm having a hard time remembering Democrats being more extreme or on par w the GOP right now. Of course, my memory only goes back to the Reagan administration, so not in my lifetime at least. I think the blanket lying about elections is worse than sweeping social programs, but that's just me.

Same here. Perhaps the left in the 60’s works be similar? Part of me wants to believe that we are used to the left being crazy but it’s new for the GOP but maybe that’s wishful thinking.

All I know is that the world seems to have lost its collective mind.

Yeah I spent most of my life hating Democrats and the left wing politics because that's how I was raised. Life has smacked me in the face and jogged me to a realization I've had it pretty much backwards- or at least that all politics are equally shitty. Politics is a game for suckers, but the GOP is really cynically staking everyone's future on this fascist gambit for power.

I'd also like this attitude to be typical "get off my lawn" generational stuff now that I'm in my 50's. But it's not. It's way worse than that.

You don't remember it, because it doesn't exist. Any effort to present an equivalency to the extremism on the right with the extremism on the left is asinine. Where are the MTGs on the left? The Lauren Boeberts? The Matt Gaetz's? The Paul Gozars? The Ron Johnsons? The Scott Perrys? And of course, where are the Donald Trumps on the left? I'm honestly surprised that there are people here, whose sensibilities I respect, are going ahead and playing such a weak hand.

Some good examples of crazy leftists are Bernie sanders and Elizabeth warren. They aren’t as bad as the Trump wing but their policies are crazy and they take every turn they can at using identity politics to further their narrative. I find them both to be despicable and potential harmful to America.

The left is also going all in on an attack on SCOTUS given the recent rulings, which is kind of odd since SCOTUS had plenty of rulings in favor of Biden and against Trump. IMO, the attempt to delegitimize the Supreme Court is pretty bad. It’s not as bad as the Big Lie, but it’s bad and painful to watch happen.

Let’s also not forget that the democrats also didn’t initially accept the results of the 2016 election. Most of them ultimately did, but not before their base had plenty of “not my president” types of people.

And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Yeah I'm posing that in a very dry way, obviously. Of course I've seen the AOC/Bernie thread that is supposed to counterbalance the MTG thread and that's just an eye-rolling false equivalency there designed to what? Make people loyal to the Republican party feel better about belonging to an organization that is now endorsing transparently, dangerously fascist candidates? We're comparing the extreme idea of installing universal health care to the extreme idea of overthrowing the government. They aren't really similar. There are arguments to be made about the value of conservatism, but it's been a long time since I've seen those made in good faith. What's so conservative about upending Democracy?

You could argue that Mitch McConnell did more to do that than any subsequent Democratic criticism of the Court.

The search for an "equivalent" on either side is silly. The acts of both sides over the years are extremely unique and varied. There is no such this as an exact analog here. The argument that "no one on the left has ever done THIS terrible thing, and therefore the right is demonstrably worse" is a strawman.

I heard an interview with AOC this morning. It has been awhile since the democrats allowed her to speak and I had forgotten how truly dumb she is.
