  • I have always maintained that Harris was a terrible VP pick and she will be a very weak presidential candidate. But she has a better chance than an old dude with dementia. I pray she wins but I predict she will lose.

Yeah, I wouldn't waste your prayers on her.

I've said Trump was going to win for quite a while. I hope I'm wrong as well. I would love to see a debate with her and Trump if he doesn't bitch out/

Trump said he will debate her... but it won't be on ABC but on Fox. Maybe the fox news crew will bring up her record as a prosecutor in California:

I wonder how Tulsi Gabbard has changed her opinion of her since then:

          • I was reading something this morning that said that the reason that Trump said that he wont debate her is that she isn't the "official" nominee of the Democratic Party. If he agrees to it, then he is basically giving credence to her position, and wants to be fair to the other folks that may step up to be considered for the nomination.

Whenever the debate happens, with whomever, I will watch. I haven't watched a debate since Romney/Obama.

I was lambasted for it but Tulsi was grifting all along. That was evidenced how quickly she made ring wing stuff her career.

Tulsi hasn't been genuinely progressive for quite awhile. And she does deserve some judgment for advocating for and taking money for Russia, India and poor maligned Syria.

Noooooooooo! Please, no more JL predictions of Trump victory!

A few incoherent thoughts on Kamala. First, the past is the past. She ran a bad campaign? Who cares. She will be the lead on the ticket and will have access to the best of the best campaign minds that the Dems have to offer. She was a weak candidate? Who cares? Again, she will be the top of the ticket. We are going to get to know everything about her, and for the most part, that's a really good story (child of immigrant parents who pushed education, fought double discrimination to rise in the system to where she is today, a stepmother to seemingly successful children, outgoing and happy). Second, she's had an awesome rollout so far. Big fundraising. Secured the backing of the party. Presented herself well and as a change agent to the oldtimers, and now more specifically Trump, that have occupied the focus of presidential politics for the past 8-12 years. She was very comfortable in her own skin during that televised call with the President and her team. that's a big plus, especially when she is so expressive and energized. Third, she exudes energy. All those memes of her dancing (and very well) and seemingly enjoying life are great for her image, and further evidence that she likes herself. This is a dramatic contrast to Trump/JD Hillbilly. Fourth, she can get under Trump's skin. She can delivers zingers that cut to Trump's core. He's a racist and misogynist. He would not be able live should he lose to her. Big stakes for him. He fears being on the same stage as her in a debate. Fifth, she presents a sympathetic figure, especially as the right and the Trump/JD Hillbilly team attack her very being, and even her name. No body likes a bully (except of course MAGA, but they are lost). That will play well for her. Sixth, Dems are now energized. Young people are energized by her (but will they really vote). Women should be energized. African Americans should be energized. Need to capture and focus that energy, and from what I can see, they are doing well on social media to do just that.

So that's pretty rambling and stream of consciousness. It will be an uphill battle. She has flaws, but they are turning some of those into strengths (all that laughing). But I think there is a real chance she can win, even without UT's prayers.
                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Being better on policy seems to be missing in your five points here. Remember, Biden was down in the polls even before the bad debate. He isn't a popular president and his policies weren't liked much either. Do her policy preferences differ from Biden's? Are her policy preferences popular? We are elites on this board for the most part and integrity, honesty, and all that are of primary importance to us. But not to the country as a whole as has been demonstrated over and over again for the last decade. Shell get the support from the elite institutions and that is something. But will her policy platform convince independents?

                      Good point. We'll see.

She's giving a very rousing and engaging speech in Milwaukee right now. No stream of incoherent weirdness, No "they are the worst people in the world, a billion times worst" ridiculousness. Something might be happening here.

JL is right, again... Harris is terrible. She was out early in the primaries like right after Ohio and sucked in the first debate. The only reason Biden picked her was that she was worse than him (he didn't want his VP making him look bad), well that and checking the box on the DEI. And USUC is right here. Biden's approval rating sucks. Harris' isn't much better. People have been impacted by their terrible policies and are feeling it.

In fact, the NYTimes rated Kamala Harris as the least electable of 10 possible Democratic nominees...

It is time for another democratic party coup!

                        • You can always count on the Democrats to screw things up and squander opportunities.

Sure, but they did win the last 3 of 4 including 2020 against an incumbent while running a pretty boring and really old guy. A lot can happen before November but let me make an SU swish prediction right now that the new round of polling coming in the next few days and first set following Biden pilulling out will show Harris already ahead.

There is no doubt that there will be significant tightening in the polls. It will be a toss-up in November. Harris will have a lot of momentum over the next few weeks, but that momentum and excitement will fade as the realities of her weaknesses and the ability for her team to create a cult of Kamala hits a ceiling. I also think that the error of Trump's VP pick will become apparent quickly.
