In fairness, he did say he didn't see that coming. Maybe he doesn't read your posts.

Apparently a kids book about Roberto Clemente got banned this week from the schools. It had a mention of him having faced some racial discrimination in his day. It's a widely documented historical fact about his life not in dispute for decades, but can't let school library books in Florida talk about that these days.

Desantis isn’t a great candidate for the presidency, but he’s become a bit of a caricature for the left to punch against. The term fascist is also losing its meaning given how poorly its being used over the last couple years.
I thought whipping up a mob to bar the Constitutionally sanctioned transfer of power after a sustained public relations campaign about how the whole election was rigged, along with a barrage of frivolous lawsuits to drive the narrative along, was pretty fascist. Maybe we've just set the bar too high for regular use of the word in our lexicon that we scoff if we don't use it to describe the pushing of crowds of ethnic groups into ovens..

          Merriam Webster definition of fascism:

1 : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
2: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control
early instances of army fascism and brutality—J. W. Aldridge
Trump? January 6 and election denial are definitely fascism
DeSantis? I can see the argument, but it seems a little more of a stretch.

The law quoted in that article doesn't seem that bad to me. Maybe I'm a fascist, too.

Florida’s Stop Woke Act bans the teaching of eight categories of concepts, including concepts that suggest that “a person, by virtue of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin, bears personal responsibility for and must feel guilt, anguish or other forms of psychological distress because of actions, in which the person played no part, committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, national origin, or sex”.
My parents taught me that I'm responsible for my own sins, not for the sins or transgressions of my forefathers.

Based on the law that was quoted, that seems like an overreach that should be adjudicated by the courts. If there is more to the ban that covers "any book with lgbt characters or minorities that experience any discrimination or racism" then I wouldn't support that at all.

If the law does ban teaching about any LGBT or minority characters who experience discrimination or racism, I find it odd that the author of the article would have excluded that - more damning - language from the article.

the example of it was pointed above. is this the law where parents can sue schools if a book is found to be in violation? if so, no wonder they remove more than technically n eeded

how about stop wasting time on banning books in general? there are no damaging books in these schools. it is another culture war boogeyman issue used to rile up support.

ideological legislation of what teachers can and can't say in a classroom is autocratic and dictatorial.
