No, I think you're right. If the democrats were smart they'd at a minimum put someone who can hold their own (like a Newsome) in aggressive clashes with MAGAland. I know Newsome and California politics horrify a lot of people but he is a good debater and has energy. They can't afford to have two passive people on that ticket, even if Biden is the moderate people clamored for.

One of my frustrations with the previous democrat was how passive Obama could be. He was pretty naive on foreign policy too. He was still better than Trump, whom I strongly believe acted against our national security interests, but Putin really began testing us in Obama's second term. Even I laughed at Romney strong assertion of how dangerous Russia was. He was clearly right on that.

I don't know if he projected with more strength that it would have changed someone like Trump succeeding him or not.

Ha. There is zero chance of Kamala being replaced. If the democratic party had the guts and the smarts to do that, they would have ditched both Biden and Kamala.

They are too passive. That'll be the downfall

          A very apt comparison.

The DNC apparatus is controlled by Biden officials and they stand to lose power without Biden. It's the same dynamic with Trump people and the GOP. The Biden admin kneecapped any possible competition before it started.

I can believe this. I don't think it's new but that doesn't mean it isn't problematic. On the other side Lara Trump heading the RNC is a bit alarming.

American politics, even when normal are weird. There is nothing in the constitution about 2 parties but I wondered if things would get out of control if became easier to be platform as a smaller party. I kind of think having one center left and one center right party coupled with one smaller further right and one smaller further left party would work.

I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary for an incumbent to control the party. Incumbents are never in their 80s though. I predict that both parties will return more to centrist parties over the coming years. Culture wars invariably flame out. The Trumpy GOP can't exist without Trump. If they don't adapt once he's gone they will be a permanent minority party.

My understanding is that Marco can't be a VP unless he changes residency. But I'm not sure.

JD Vance is the worst of the populists economic nationalists. I'd hate him as a pick. But on a political expediency scale? I have no idea. He is unlikable to me.
