The transgender teenager responsible for Canada’s worst school shooting in nearly 40 years struggled with his physical appearance and was fixated with guns and drugs.

Jesse Van Rootselaar, an 18-year-old from the remote town of Tumbler Ridge who was born a male, wrote online about his 6ft frame and his desire to be a “petite” woman.

He shot dead his mother, Jennifer Strang, and his 11-year-old stepbrother on Tuesday afternoon before walking to his former school 10 minutes away and opening fire on pupils and staff, killing eight before taking his own life.

I believe Dabrockster's post stated that it wasn't receiving the normal attention, not that it didn't receive any attention.

I did not become aware of the person being trans till today. However, yes, the usual suspects in the political world were completely silent on this mass shooting. yes, it was not in America but Canada but I found it ironic. The addition of the person being trans flips this discussion to the transgender discussion since he began treatment and the process of transitioning at the age of 12. Which leads to a much bigger discussion on why such things should not be done and mental health is the primary objective to ensure their safety and well being.

But NWC can roll his eyes and provide whatever excuse for the topic he wishes to minimize it. Similar to what I do with his or others opinions on things I don't agree with. Such is life at CS..

The town has about 2000 people. My son has been there when he planted trees. It's remote and far away from most Americans' minds, yet the NYT and other orgs ran stories on it the night it happened. Are you suggesting that a US newspaper would to continue to report on it as they do with shootings happen in the states? Or they intended to, but they decided to pump the brakes on it once they found it the shooter was trans?

I am suggesting there is a double standard when it comes to mass shootings unless it meets a political objective. So, the radio silence of any politician is par for the course. They look to weaponize it for their purposes, but since it is not in America, not a word.

As for injecting the newspapers not reporting because the person is Trans. Not what I said at all. Only that I found out the next day and moved the topic to the other thread. Just that simple, but you tend to make assumptions about me..

My initial post was and my point has always been about the politicians and the silence there. Not focused on MSM..

Surprised this has not gotten more publicity. Small, town, 10 people dead at a school. But again, it is doesn't impact our political narrative or boost numbers for either political party here in America, than it is not worth discussing for politicians.

School shootings are rare in Canada.

The town of Tumbler Ridge in the Canadian Rockies is more than 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) north of Vancouver, near the border with Alberta. The provincial government website lists Tumbler Ridge Secondary School as having 175 students from Grades 7 to 12.

I am not sure why the politicians would comment on a Canadian mass shooting. I am sure if you asked a US liberal politician for comment about it they would likely say something along the lines of, "It's a terrible tragedy" and then they might say depending on how liberal they are that, "It's interesting that this is the largest Canadian mass shooting in 40 years. I am guessing the significantly more restrictive gun laws in Canada are why its such a rare occurrence" They would not mention the trans angle. If you asked a conservative person that would say something like "It's a terrible tragedy" and then the magas would go on to say something about the shooter being trans.

I haven't kept an exact count, but there have been quite a few. Including that awful catholic school shooting last year. Seems like an anomaly.

I looked at two online sources. Depending on how you classify 'mass shooting', the highest count was 5 in the last 13 years. Less than 0.1% of the total reported during that time.
