I'm bothered, to say the least by tomorrow's scheduled execution in Alabama of a man who didn't kill anyone. While he was being arrested for a drug-related crime a friend came in and killed three arresting officers with a shotgun. The actual killer is on death row and has fully confessed, while stating that the guy being killed tomorrow is innocent. Alabama. Hasn't anyone down there read/seen Just Mercy? I'm firmly in the "no death penalty" camp, but I can understand why some may differ. For cases like this, however, the death penalty shouldn't even be in the conversation.

Same exact circumstances, only make the defendant be white. Would he be facing the death penalty in Alabama right now? Excuse my cynicism, but no way in hell.

I know the UK doesn't have the death penalty, but I think that it should still exist for three things:
1. Murder, attempted murder, or rape of a pre-pubescent child
2. Treason in a time of war
3. Hiring someone to kill someone else. The killer should get life, but the person who asks that it be done should forfeit their life.

I didn't know you felt so strongly about student dorms at the U.

I miss his wit so very much. A decade plus hence and this kind of humor still makes me smile.

For me, still too bloodthirsty. I don't think the state should be putting people to death. Any exceptions will still run into a number of gray areas, as human nature and motive is too complex. I spent a good portion of my late 20s and 30s trying to justify the death penalty to myself. For some reason it was just engrained in me that it is necessary. But my moral compass just can't justify it.

I shared what I had prepared with my dad, who told me I was arguing for the wrong position. He pointed me to the Mosaic Law. I changed my speech to argue in favor of the death penalty.

Now I think I'm somewhere near wuap's stated position.

When people ask me, as they are wont to do, why I don't believe in God anymore (I live in the South, after all), I refer them to Jessica Lunsford. I believe that a search of my posts on this site will reveal my anger, nay IRE, with God over her disappearance and discovery. She died with soil in her lungs because her fucking murderer buried her alive, yards from her bedroom. Her parents were on TV, begging for her life, while she lay cold in a grave in which she suffocated to death, after being raped. Against none is his anger kindled save those who confess not his hand in all things, so, <redacted> explain that one, Nuestro Padre Celestial.
