I'm not quite sure why, but this article ticks me off."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

It ticks me off that Polanski is getting special treatment, which I think is what ticks you off.Originally posted by wuapinmon View Posthttp://blogs.phillymag.com/the_phill...oman-polanski/

Yes, I refuse to watch Polanski films; reading the Smoking Gun files about the case convinced me of his guilt. But, I don't think I really agree with him that our culture treats the abuse of children differently according to sex. I guess I'm just ticked that he used these cases to create a point that I don't think is as huge as it might've been 25 years ago. If anything, I'd say that the teacher sex cases disprove his point considerably.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostIt ticks me off that Polanski is getting special treatment, which I think is what ticks you off."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. I also read the smoking gun report and agree with you. The fact actors like Johnny Depp (who I like% defends him among many others makes me sick...Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostYes, I refuse to watch Polanski films; reading the Smoking Gun files about the case convinced me of his guilt. People who hold special places in the culture get a pass.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostYes, I refuse to watch Polanski films; reading the Smoking Gun files about the case convinced me of his guilt. I don't agree, but it's not surprising. Even Sandusky, an effing football coach, got about as much of a pass as a person can get. Polanski, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, etc. etc. etc. Guilty or not, there were always plenty of people rushing to their defense not because of any persona knowledge of their innocence or even moral fiber, but because they didn't want their idol burned at the stake. Not only is there no bigger indictment of our idolatrous culture than this phenomenon, it is also one illustration of why idolatry is bad.

Well put and this, I believe, is what I wanted to say, but couldn't figure out how to articulate. Thank you.Originally posted by Commando View PostPeople who hold special places in the culture get a pass.

So true. But its also easy to point the finger at others as we're a tribal cuture. It's easy to laugh at a TV Evangelist who is "outed" but wonder if the Mormons would circle the wagons if it happened to a popular GA. Always thought Michael Jackson was a bit "weird" being a product of Motown and Hollywood so wasn't surprised. But am truly shocked at Joe Paterno - something much closer to home. No one wants their idol burned at the stake - but all too often we're willing to burn the idol of others.Originally posted by Commando View PostPeople who hold special places in the culture get a pass.

(without sarcasm) Can you please elaborate on this idea? I have equated them in mind as two sides of the same predatory coin. I'd like a nuanced reasoning (which I know you can provide) against my opinion. Perhaps some introspection on my part is needed. I just can't see much difference, knowing the facts of the cases.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostPolansky's and Sandusky's crimes are not equal."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. This is what happens when you don't believe in evil.Originally posted by wuapinmon View Post(without sarcasm) Can you please elaborate on this idea? For one thing, so far as I know, Polanski was a one time offender, whereas Sandusky was a serial predator. Equating the two is ridiculous. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
