  • Well, I went 8.5 miles in the heat. 1:55 change in elevation 424 ft, Carried the dog the last 1/4 mile.

    Amusing story:

The other day on my normal rte, one of the ladys asked if went up by the Target in Layton ( 180 degrees from the way I normally go ) When I said yes sometimes, she said the her daughter saw me and asked if that was her jogger.

I guess I belong to the neighborhood kids now.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

When I was in second grade I attended Hill View elementary school in Murray and we had a lovely view of this mountain from our playground. I vowed to myself then that someday I would climb that mountain. More than 40 years later I finally did it. This was a bucket list sort of thing for me.

The climb up was actually not too hard, but for the last .1 of a mile, which is pretty much straight up, requiring the use of both hands for a good part of it. Coming down was a bear for my nearly 50 year old knees; much, much worse than going up (my theory is that my bike riding makes my quads good at pushing down, which makes going up easy, but makes lifting up not as strong. I got to the summit in less than three hours but took much longer coming down.

The climb is 6.5 miles (round trip)with an elevation gain of 4,920 feet from the trail head. Any of you in SLC or the area should definitely do this climb sometime. If you go, go early in the morning as the bottom half of the climb is exposed and the sun is not kind inthe afternoon. But the views from thew top are spec-stinkin'-tacular. A couple of shots below (I forgot my camera so these were taken with my blackberry)

This is the view from the top of the south peak. I am standing on the edge of a sheer clif that is the chasm between this summit and the north peak, which is below:

It is really cool to see this as it is onyl about 300 yards away from the south peak, but it looks like you could reach out and touch it.
Your Blackberry takes pretty decent photos!

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

We lived in Murray my first year of marriage. I had just finished at the U and we were both working in SLC. During that first summer together, my wife and I would climb Mount Olympus at least once a week (not a euphemism). It was a great training hike.

Someone should let Steel know that it was 72 degrees when I went running yesterday. Same home town.

                • Robin had to watch little Robin this evening, so I ran 10.68 miles around the Rancho Park Golf course for both of us.

FWIW, I don't think any of us thought that was a euphemism. Now, if you had said that, oh wait, never mind.
