    Distance Challenge Entries

Rule #1) Mileage entries are to be made on the spreadsheet and in a post here (so I have a way to verify accuracy of entry)

#The first tab on the spreadsheet is locked. Enter your mileage on the subsequent tabs for the various types of activities.
    2) Mileage ratios => 4:1 road bike:running, 3:1 mountain bike:running, .25:1 swimming (Automatically calculated, just enter whatever distance you traveled without adjustment.)
    3) Any activity counts for any participant. I.e., a runner can count miles on the bicycle, a cyclist can count running miles, anyone can swim.
    4) Contest starts 7/15 and runs through 8/31.
    5) People are allowed to enter through the end of July--each entry must select his/her own team

    * Teams look pretty even so far so we'll go with total mileage per team without any proration based on team size.

    Did I miss anything?

Yes, you have to have a team. Teams are even enough that you can't possibly hurt a team. Go run 3 miles in the next six weeks, and it'll be added to the team's total for three more miles than they would have had otherwise. Which team should I put you down for?

6.01 mile run, 8.7 miles on the trainer while watching le tour.

Creekster inspired me with his story about watching the tour the other day in his cycling gear. Tomorrow on my day off of running I plan to start the race at 5:30 am with the peleton while on my trainer and ride as long as I can keep up or until I have to get ready for work, whichever comes first.

We'd be more than happy to include you on the cyclist team, if you want to be there.

Good thing...that would have been awkward because I knew we didn't want you on the running team.

I'll do it. I don't have a Nike or Garmin contraption. And do treadmill runs count?
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I really don't expect there to be any need for verification. Treadmills runs are fine.

Cool. My treadmill is running in the basement now. I'll go check on it later and post the mileage.

This challenge might pull my wife on here. She wants to know how to count spinning classes, if at all. What about recumbent bikes? The spinning bikes don't count mileage, but she's guessing about 12 miles for the hour. I've done them with her and I'm thinking that might be a little low. She also runs, so it wouldn't be a dealbreaker if you don't count spinning miles.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
