Does anyone have a favorite app for tracking food?
Got a diagnosis of Meniere's disease yesterday. This is what has been causing my debilitating vertigo episodes. Also it means I can look forward to some hearing loss in my near future. So I have to keep my salt intake under 2000 mg, which I swear I don't exceed very often anyway, but it would be nice to use something easy.

I have seen apps where you take a pic of your food and it guesses at the calorie content. I wonder if there is something similar for sodium.

I've used MyFitnessPal for logging food when I track calories. It also tracks the other nutrients.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostDoes anyone have a favorite app for tracking food?

I have used Lose It, and find its database superior to the free version of MyFitnessPal I had previously used. I also like the bar code scan feature and the nutrution info scan. But it is about $30 per year.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

I don't think I described what happened with my latest episode in November. I could feel some pressure in my ears the night before, but didn't really think much of it. I went on a trail run at lunch, and about 30 minutes after while I was in my office I started to feel it coming on. I ditched my meeting and drove the 5 minutes to my kid's school. Things were spinning, but I felt I could drive safely enough. I parked by the track where I would meet my kids and where my son could drive me home. After getting there it hit me hard. I had to crawl out of the car and I was throwing up into the gutter, while laying on the sidewalk. I threw up 2 or 3 times before I was able to get a ride home. We had to stop twice for me to puke and then when I got home I jumped out of the car collapsed on the grass and puked again. By 9 that night I was all better, but there were a few hours of pure hell in there.

Man, I sympathize with you. I had a (singular) bout of vertigo a few years back. It was awful. If felt like I was dizzy even laying down with my eyes closed. Any attempt to sit up or walk and I immediately had to vomit. The only way I could get comfortable was basically fetal position on the bed with a pillow under my stomach. Epley maneuver worked for me, but it was a few days before I felt normal again. I can't imagine having that happen regularly.Originally posted by BigPiney View Post

luckily I am down to it happening 1 -2 times a year, but it is horrible. And unfortunately the Epley maneuver does not work for me, hence my most recent diagnosis. The ENT did say that valium works really well to stop my kind of vertigo, but of course he didn't want to prescribe that yet. Need a hearing test first.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

You might consider getting a second opinion. Google the Epley maneuver.Originally posted by BigPiney View Post

My son who is a doctor says he has patients come in all the time with vertigo, nausea, etc and they are at their wit's end. He tells them it might be a stone in the ear canal in the wrong place and they look at him like he is a quack. He then does the maneuver (he is very good at it) and it almost always gives them instant relief."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? I went to a PT that was well versed in it. Said I was out of luck. Tried many times with no results.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

That sucks BP. Did you have a head injury at some point? I know a few fighters/boxers who have meniere’s, and they are in a better spot than they used to be.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostDoes anyone have a favorite app for tracking food?

I had a concussion snowboarding once. Took a jump too big and ate it good. This was before helmets were so commonplace. This also explains my posting history.Originally posted by Green Monstah View Post

Back in the late 80s when nobody wore helmets I was in a lift line night skiing in Ashland, OR and I hear over an intercom "SteelBlue, please report to the lodge, your brother doesn't know who he is." Or something close to that.Originally posted by BigPiney View Post

He couldn't come up with his own name but he remembered mine. He lost like two full days of memory after hitting an icy patch and going down hard with a concussion. Ambulance called? Nah, they just handed him over to our teenaged care. We gave him some food and told him to stay in his seat and we kept skiing. He's normal now so it all worked out. The 80's were a different time.
