You should read the book, DH. Unlike a lot of you (but similar to a few of you), to get to my healthy weight, I’ll have to lose triple digits (which I accomplished late last year, but I gained weight over the holidays) from my starting weight. Plateau’ing at a weight that is at least 65 pounds from a healthy weight is a recurring issue for me, including now.
in addition to burning more energy than you take in, keeping insulin levels low is key. And he spends a couple of hundred pages explaining why.
Dr Fung is complimentary of the Mediterranean diet, although a little critical of its founder for his take on saturated fats and heart disease. I think the Mediterranean diet also is a good example of how complex carbs plus fiber and moderate protein can keep insulin levels low (I.e. the quality of the carbs, proteins and fats matters as much as the metric).

I was legitimately considering reading it 8 years ago when JL was first pimping it. But I bailed when JL told us about the Fung guy cashing in. FWIW, I do use a modified IF approach. I'm not super strict about it, but I don't generally eat before 1pm or after 9pm. That alone has helped me maintain, for the most part. But I can still gain weight if I eat recklessly during that window. Hence my CICO-rooted perceptions.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostYou should read the book, DH. Bingo.
But the med diet is more than just calorie reduction. And it has a ton of evidence to back it up.

The other aspects, reducing insulin resistance, high protein/tracking macros, exercise, etc. help determine how and where the weight is lost. If you want the weight lost to be fat and not muscle, they are worth paying attention to.
Seems like this is a given.

I consume a 30g protein shake for breakfast that is keto-friendly. I usually eat one portion of chicken/pork each meal. The thing that is changed is I consume a lot more fiber than I used to in the form of broccoli, cauliflower, and mushrooms. Everything is cooked with olive oil. The lbs are coming off quickly. The only supplement I take is Turmeric with 95% curcuminoids and piperine (x3 a day).
I definitely have a calorie deficiency; I'm not hungry most of the time.

I started weaning myself off good sodas for diet ones. I am also going to train so that I can run a 50 mile trail run this summer. I would like to be 5 pounds lighter than I am now, for the run.
I ran 4 miles at lunch and got stung by a bee while I was changing my shirt. lil bastard just flew down and stung me.

Solid. I’ve been off the sugary stuff for about 18 months. Struggling with the diet variety, but I think I’ve finally got the motivation to ditch it as well.
A 50 mile trail run is just unfathomable to me. Well freaking done.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

My soda of choice is now Sparkling Ice (or its Kirkland variants). I was happy to see the Starburst flavor combo on special at Costco this week. Maximum quantity of 10 was quickly added to my cart.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostSolid. I’ve been off the sugary stuff for about 18 months.
