Dayum. I did a short run yesterday, pushed it nearly has hard as I could, and ran the second mile in....8:06. If I were to attempt anything remotely close to what you and some of the other fitter (and, it is fervently hoped, much younger) folks can routinely do, my post-run nap would be eternal.

Everything going well training for Ogden. Muscles always let me know after the long runs, but the hamstring pull was just a little sore and only lasted 2-3 days (during which I jogged the training distances). I'm really feeling pretty good.
Then I find out a niece is getting married the same day of the race. In the morning.
Crap.
Haven't decided yet if I'm going to blow off family, or blow off the race. Dang kids and their willy nilly jumping into things like getting married without checking the dates with extended family first.
As a side note - depending the degree of guilt I feel about skipping the wedding there may be a number available for someone who feels like running the morning of May 19. Only drawback is it comes with someone else's name on it...

After a 5 mile run on Thursday morning I peed what looked like blood. I figured it was myoglobinuria but I thought it odd since I hadn't run especially far or fast that day. I went to the doctor and he also thought it was myoglobinuria but we did some labs anyway. I get the results on Monday.
Last night I was feeling fine after lots of hydration and was peeing clear so I decided to go ahead and do the 20 miler I had scheduled.
I ended up peeing red/pink after 10 miles again so I stopped. I felt fine though. It was really weird. I've read other places that sometimes this happens to runners when bladder is empty and the bladder walls rub against each other and get irritated. I'm not sure what is going on but this sucks.

Bib numbers and corral assignments are out for Boston. I barely made it into the first wave -- I'm in the ninth corral (out of nine). It probably would have been less crowded to be in the first corral of the second wave, but this way I get to wear the red bib that the fast people have on. One more month.

Do you have a time goal? Or just enjoy the experience? It seems like you were putting up crazy miles (even more so than normal), so I'm guessing yes.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I'm mostly going to try to enjoy the experience, although I figure the best way to do that is to be in the best shape possible and run fast. My PR is 3:18, so my goal for any race coming up is something less than that.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostSo cool.

I've been taking it pretty easy since the bloody urine. I did a 20 miler on Saturday and NO BLOOD! I talked to a urologist and I guess idiopathic runner's hematuria is pretty common.
Now I just need to get my speed back up. Since taking it easy my comfortable short workout pace has slowed by over a minute per mile.

That's your last long run, right? Good luck!Originally posted by Slim View PostI've been taking it pretty easy since the bloody urine. I did a 20 miler on Saturday and NO BLOOD! I talked to a urologist and I guess idiopathic runner's hematuria is pretty common.

I'm pretty excited for Ogden (May 19). Is anyone else running it, or one within a week or two? Eddie? At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Yeah that is my last long run. Thanks. I had planned to do three 20 milers before the marathon but only managed two. I feel ready, though.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostThat's your last long run, right? Good luck!

I only have two on my schedule and was a little nervous about that, so I'm glad to hear you feel ready. If everything goes well, I'm going to run St George in October and add in a third.Originally posted by Slim View PostYeah that is my last long run. Thanks. I had to think about it a little. I'll be missing a niece's wedding that morning, which had me reconsidering. I told my SIL that they have to let us know further out - can't go and decide to get married on the same date as a reace when I've already paid the entry fee! Doesn't hurt that my wife is telling me to go run and feels worse about not being at the finish line than about me not being at the wedding.
So far training runs have been great. I'm only planning on one 20-miler. I'm following nearly the same training regimen as last year. I was so happy with the result then, that I don't want to mess it up too much. The only tweak is that last year I only ran 3 days a week, and this year I've added in a short (3-4 mile) run at pace the day before my long run.
I'm also hoping to draw out for St. George. If successful, I want to add in another 20-mile training run and see how that helps on race day.

I'm done training for Boston. I put in 6 long runs since late January: 25.5, 27.11, 26.2, 27.62, 20, and a final long run yesterday. I did 10.05 in the morning and 20 more after work. My daily runs have been at least 10 miles since early January.
Now I taper. I'll do 7-milers the rest of this week and half of next. Fly on Thursday, run 5 on Friday, rest on Saturday and Sunday and see how Monday goes.
Sucking is always a real possibility, but it won't be for lack of training this time.

How have your times been on the long runs? One major source of frustration for me has been finishing 20 mile training runs in a good overall pace and feeling pretty fresh only to bonk on race day at 20 or 22 miles, or feel lousy at 16 or 18 miles. I guess a few solid 25 or 27 mile runs would all but solve that problem.
