  • I just shot the most frustrating 78 of my life. Bogeyed two par 5s- was 40 yards off both greens in fairway in 2 on both. Doubled par 3 over water by bad club choice.

I’m not complaining too much. I’ve been playing like sh** for last few weeks. Was legitimately pondering putting the clubs away for awhile. Golf being the cruel mistress she is. My next round will probably have 38 putts and 2 penalty strokes.

EDIT: As a foursome with two of us walking, and one player shooting in the mid 90s. We were still able to complete our round in two hours and 47 minutes. There is no reason any golf round that doesn’t pay out prize money, shouldn’t ever take over four hours.

    • Congrats on having less fun than you otherwise would have. Whenever I'm out with my friends, I find myself wishing it would be over already so I could stop hanging out with them. Do you want all movies to be 90 minutes max as well?

Gosh, that would be amazing. falafel for president.

I once spent 9 hours golfing (walking!) with a fellow CSer on a single day, after the doing the same the day before. It was one of the worst golf experiences of my life. I'm pretty sure he still has video evidence of my misery.

That's funny, I had a similar experience last October. Walked two rounds a day for two straight days, averaging 35,000 steps a day. It was one of the best golf experiences of my life. But not everyone loves Bandon.

I'm going to bet you didn't walk in some of the parts AV walked in. Just a hunch.

I've played every course at Bandon at least twice (Sheep Ranch 3x). It's an amazing. What isn't quite as enjoyable is playing bad golf in a monsoon like rains with 30mph winds. DH, a mutual friend, my son and I played Sheep in the morning. It was cold and tough, but we all played fairly well considering the elements. For the afternoon round my son tapped out and stayed, a nap in the lodge sounded better for him. Our caddie (a native Hawaiian) kept asking, "You sure you want to play in this?" We were one of two groups on Old Mac., the other foursome was 7 or 8 holes in front of us. It was brutal. The Vegas attorney played great in the elements. Me? Not so much. The last 4 holes reminded me of completing a 50 mile hike, i just kept walking, because I had no other options.

I have had GREAT weather the other 6 days I've played Bandon, so I was overdue for a cold, windy day on the Oregon Coast. A buddy of mine wants to do the Summer Solstice there in 2023. I'm not sure walking 4 rounds in a single day/night sounds like a ton of fun. I think 3 in a single day would be the most I could handle.

                  Gorse is a big problem.

Monsoon weather and swinging metal clubs into the air: what could go wrong?

I was already down $60 or $70 to DH and we had a double or nothing bet. On the previous hole he had just put a 100 foot triple breaking putt to gimme range, while I missed a 8 foot birdie putt. I knew that was almost my last chance. On 15 or 16 (whichever one you ring the bell on) I pulled my drive left into what looked like long grass. I needed to find my ball and somehow at least match DH who bombed a perfect drive in the fairway. The "long grass" was gorse that had been cut to 6-12". Much to caddies chagrin we trudged through it, he found my ball. I tried to get it back to the fairway. Nope more gorse. This happening at same time as DH puring a 3W to a blind green. I mentally tapped out. I was cold, wet, soon-to-be-broke and my clubs kept falling off my cart. DH filmed my Battan like march. I don't think i cried, but I sure as hell felt like doing it.

Good story. (It was a 4-iron, though. And it was right on line, but too much club. I had to get up and down from behind the green for par. Fortunately no grouse back there. )

                        • I played in a tournament at Thanksgiving Point today. Our last hole was #4, and closest to the pin. The prize was a $2,600 E-bike. I knocked it a foot and a half from the hole. Sadly, someone else was a foot from the hole, but it was pretty exciting up until we got down to the hole. I thought for sure I had it.

Holy crap, I would be so pissed! In my league last night I hit to 6'8" on the KP. The eventual winner was already on the card at 6'6".

2" too long. Story of my life.

                            • To lose a KP when you’re 18” away is crazy. That is close even if it was a 20 yard chipping contest.

I played TP 2 weeks ago. The new owners are doing a good job bringing back in shape. I couldn’t remember what hole #4 was. Looked it up on Arccos. I was a 11 feet away in 2 shots.

We were playing from the whites, so it was only around 160, but it's pretty elevated, so there's math involved. I've never hit a hole in one, but that was the closest I've got, since it was right on line.
