  • The glorious Oregon September has continued so far into October. I played 9 today, 42 on the front. Unfortunately we didn't tee off until 1:50 and I had two football practices with the first starting at 4. I was really wanting to stay and see if I could finish it off.

    • Last two weeks I have thrown down a 79, 76 and 75. Handicap down to a 10. I am on pain meds today so I might go really, really low.

        • What's better than being able to golf in Rexburg during the month of December, really a lot of things but it's still pretty damn good. It gets dark so early that I was only to get five holes in but it's better than being stuck inside.

              • Golf Bet question....

We currently use and app to track our bets in our group on our Saturday game. The app is awesome.

The downside? The app has a max of 5 players. I am looking for an app that will allow you to do this for 6-10 players. Anyone know of anything?

We are running Nassau, Skins, Dots and Trash and a team game. (Everything is done off of the low man.)

If you currently have a spreadsheet that can do all of this...that would be awesome to take a look at.

                  Dear Tick:

As an avid golfer myself, I derive great pleasure from your affinity for the game of golf. However, as you may know, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (you may know us as the "Mormons"). As Mormons, we believe that gambling is an activity which, if not sinful, is spiritually destructive. It is usually motivated by a desire to get something for nothing, and distracts people from following Jesus Christ's example of selflessness.

I can't help you out with advice on gambling apps or spreadsheets. Instead, I would encourage you to get away from wagering and find a more wholesome way to improve your golf experience. Perhaps you could play for points instead of money? Maybe have everyone bring a can of differing brands of root beer. At the end of the round, the winner gets first pick (but make sure all participants get one, so it's not gambling)! Just an couple of ideas. Anyway, if you'd like to learn more about what we Mormons believe, let me know and I can send a couple of friends your way to talk with you.

                  Your friend and fellow golfer,

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

                      • I got an email from SLC Golf today. They are in the process of determining what steps to take to start operating in the black. They have two independent studies complete, and are scheduling a meeting to get comments from the public. They should be making the final decision in February.

It looks like Wingpointe (by the airport) will be closing soon. The FAA currently charges the city $500,000 a year to use the land. Rose Park and Glendale are being considered for closure as well. Those three courses are the ones that mostly operate in the red. Forest Dale does as well, but I don't see it being recommended for closure. The Jordan River Par 3 course closed last year.

I could care less about Rose Park and Glendale, but am kind of sad about Wingpointe. It's a fun and challenging course, we usually try to play there a couple of times a year. It is open now, I may try to brave the cold tomorrow and get in a round in case they end up closing it next month.

i really like Wingpointe, it would be a shame to see it close. 3 and 13 are two really good tough holes.

it's a fun course. hasn't there been talk of shutting it down for a long time now? they could close everything but wingpointe, bonneville, and mountain dell and i'd be fine.

Played Wingpointe for the first time in quite a while a couple of weeks ago. Good course and a change from most courses in the state. They ought to convince the environmentalists that if the course isn't there the land is going to be developed commercially. I am sure they could then get Obama to designate it something that would make the government lease it for free.

                              • Gorgeous nearly 70 degree day today without a cloud in the sky, first round of the year laid down a 44-43. This could be a good year.
