Man I don't know how any of you guys can run that long. Even when I was running 3+ miles daily (and it was easy) it was never something I looked forward to. I could play basketball for 3 hours straight. I could swim for 3 hours straight. But running for that long without any other objective other than trying to get to a finish line is torture for me. I'm just wired differently I guess. Good thing I am not a caveman or else I would have starved.

Yeah, this is a mystery to me as well. I guess I'll find out, but for now while running my small distances the motivation to keep going is not quitting. I'm not sure how that will hold out as I run longer distances.Originally posted by Surfah View PostMan I don't know how any of you guys can run that long.Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. According to some of the recaps here, some of you are running towards it.Originally posted by nikuman View PostAt a certain point I'm running away from Death.

I get it though. I can see how for many people running is therapeutic, even cathartic. Just not for me."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

The real truth is that when I hit a certain level of exhaustion I reach a zen-like mental state. It's me and my body, with nothing else. It takes many miles to hit that point these days. And every race I finish is a powerful reminder that I killed that fat lazy ass, killed and buried him.Originally posted by Surfah View PostAccording to some of the recaps here, some of you are running towards it.

This is what I run in. Hooray for neutral runners.Originally posted by atheistcougar View PostI bought some Brooks Ghost 4s and some socks, then started bridge to 10k. I guess this makes me a neophyte runner.
Good for you for getting out there and getting at it. I too need a race that I have signed up for to motivate me to get out there. This past year has been great for that, though I am not sure what I am going to do after November. My wife has forbid me from signing up for anything big next summer, though maybe I can do some Olympic triathlons and say those aren't big.

I didn't want to spend so much at this stage, but that was the lowest price of pretty much every shoe in the store. I knew I could find shoes cheaper online, but the amount of time they spent on fitting me with the shoe was well worth the extra money. I tried on at least a dozen different shoes and was easily in the store for an hour. They took the time to explain why they were doing what they were doing, why they were going a bit larger than my measurements, how my foot contacted the ground, etc... Definitely worth the $30 premium for buying them in the store, and enough to keep me going back. Gladly, in the day of super stores, customer service is not dead.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostThis is what I run in. Hooray for neutral runners.

How do you all deal with dogs? I have an acute fear of dogs that are on the loose. I got attacked several times in Chile and a few times as a kid and its not something I care to ever have to handle without protection again.Don't worry about people stealing your ideas.
