My wife takes it frequently. All I know is that tastes terrible. She has to gag it down.
I’ll probably mix it in with my protein shake
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
Anyone here tried taking collagen on a daily basis?
I ask mainly because my running has become more difficult month by month. Some of that is the fact I'm getting older but I've also become a lot more sore after some runs and my recovery time seems to get longer and longer. Maybe I'm just old, but I'm starting to not really enjoy running because I struggle to keep a decent pace for 4 miles (especially in the heat) but I also fear the recovery time. I stopped using protein powder a while back because I just ran out and then life got busy...but I ordered some more today and I also ordered collagen to see if that helps as well. I haven't done any research on collagen other than hearing several podcasts that talk about the benefits.
My understanding is that collagen is just protein, but in a harder to digest form than most. Your body has to break it down into amino acids and then use to build proteins. it can’t convert it directly into usable collagen.
I've been trying to resume running since around Christmas after several years off and including a 2019 achilles tear and repair. It has not gone well as I've been unable to string even two runs together in the same week without soft tissue injuries. Turns out you can't take a decade off and then try jumping back in in your 50s without consequences. I've been frustrated but finally had a bit of a breakthrough. Instead of trying to run a 5k a couple times a week I've taken to running a mile for time daily. So far (for the better part of June) I've stayed injury free. I hadn't broken the 8 minute barrier since my achilles injury and finally accomplished that a couple weeks ago. Last week I turned in a 7:18. I never thought I'd get excited about a 7:18 but it has me believing I will see the 6's again with more time and practice. I know it's just a mile, but mentally it's satisfying to feel some kind of progress again.

Nice!

That is impressive. Running fast sucks. I hate tasting blood.
Imagine how much it sucks to taste blood and see 7:18.
I am pretty much stuck at 8:00 pace. My goal after my current endurance building phase is to add some speed. Next week I plan on running 6 miles a day for 5 days. Why? I have no idea.
My goal for this summer is to do a back country trail run of 25+ miles.

I am calling bullshit here ha ha. Remember, I've ridden with you. I'm nearly certain that if you ran a single mile for time today you could dip under 6. I agree with you on the why? I also have no idea but I think it's because I'm realizing I have less than a decade to even have the option.

Oh yeah. That is my 5 mile pace this week. I could probably do one at about 6. I'll try when I get back home next week.

I take Collagen every day and also glucosamine. And I run most days at least 4 miles and in addition walk a lot for exercise (my fitness age is 11 years less than my actual age per Garmin and Dexafit). I swear by them. I'm usually suspicious of supplements but they are miracle "drugs." My joints have no pain. My assistant told me about these and said I'd feel like I was 14. He wasn't far off.

That's fantastic, SU. What kind of collagen do you use? We have some liquid mix we picked up from Costco and it's so disgusting I'd rather have joint pain.

My wife uses that. It smells terrible.

I'm sure I just have missed it over the years, but I never knew you were a runner, SU. That's awesome.
