The edits to the temple recommend interview questions are interesting. I think one is: "The Lord has said that all things are to be done in cleanliness before Him. Do you strive for moral cleanliness in your thoughts and behavior?" I don't think that was there before (or perhaps I ignored it if it was). More grist for this week's PASG meeting.
And there's a new, or at least expanded, question on whether one keeps the Sabbath Day holy. My sis-in-law's stake in Arizona has decreed that watching TV on Sunday is a Sabbath violation, so temple attendance in Mesa may drop precipitously.

It's a good thing that the stake's interpretation doesn't apply to anything, then.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostThe edits to the temple recommend interview questions are interesting. Worthily partake of the Sacrament? That seems backwards. The people who need the Atonement in their life, and the blessings of the Sacrament are the unworthy. The ones that need to partake.
Worthy people don't need to partake - last week's Sacrament partaking is still good for them... and if they stay worthy the coming week - they are good to go again. If worthy people take each week - it becomes rote - and just a thoughtless gesture without meditation.

I see it as who is worthy of the Atonement when approaching the Sacrament table. I dont think you can do so casually, thus the need to prepare. I would also think that no one approaches the Sacrament in any given week without the need of the Atonement based upon what has transpired in their lives since the last time. But maybe I'm just projecting.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostWorthily partake of the Sacrament? That seems backwards. That’s a cynical side I don’t recall seeing from you. But don’t worry; my mom had similar sentiments when I got home from my mission. I thought then she was dangerously treading into apostate territory. Next April will be the bi-millennial + 1 score celebration of the Atonement, so I’m sure it will still get a mention or two."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

They’re just talking about those apostates that take the Sacrament with their left hand. Or Sons of Perdition that walk into the foyer after the bread has been passed and think they can slide on the water alone.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostWorthily partake of the Sacrament? No the Sons of Perdition show up in the foyer during the water passing and tell the deacon to go get them some bread too. Happens every week in our ward.Originally posted by Dwight Schr-ute View PostThey’re just talking about those apostates that take the Sacrament with their left hand. This drives me nuts too. If partaking of the ordinance is that important to you, then maybe have a little more respect for it by getting there 5 minutes earlier.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostNo the Sons of Perdition show up in the foyer during the water passing and tell the deacon to go get them some bread too. It's almost somewhat understandable for 9am church, but for noon I'm right there with you. And even for 9am it should be rare but it's the same people every week.Originally posted by Surfah View PostThis drives me nuts too. 9 AM doesn't get a pass. Church starts at the same time every week. Get up a little earlier and help get the kids ready. Easy enough.Originally posted by Copelius View PostIt's almost somewhat understandable for 9am church, but for noon I'm right there with you. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
