We were told by our Stake President that the local mission is beginning to pilot a new program where missionaries are asked to do 20 hours of service a week.

20 hours of service seems like a lot - and honestly enough that it would break up the proselyting stuff pretty well.

It also seems like enough that if you don't have some regular assignments/project you're working on - like working at the food bank or volunteering at a school or something - it would get hard really really quickly to find 20 hours of stuff to do every week, week in and week out.

My son, who's been home from his mission for 3+ years now, volunteered weekly at a soup kitchen run by another church. They became pretty good friends with the "Sister" from this other denomination who ran the thing while he was there. To the point that she was defending him and his companion to other members of their congregation.

That's hardly a prediction. That's how it's gone down ever since I joined the Church.

We were asked to do eight hours per week of service in France. It wasn’t tough to find the service to fill the hours and people loved it when we worked at a food bank or hospital or whatever. They love having young kids that show up every week and are happy to be there (mostly because it meant we weren’t doing a finding activity). I also found more solid investigators while serving than when we were knocking doors or street contacting. Those morning or afternoon hours can be brutal without anything to do and service is a great time filler and finding tool. I’d definitely support missionaries being asked to serve more.

We were told to do a max of 4 hours. I got yelled at by the Mp for doing 24 hours one week (we helped a terminally ill cancer patient pack and move).

It’s a modern day miracle! Children of LGBQ can now be blessed and baptized. I had to pull over and absorb all this new revelation.

That makes me very happy. I thought that policy was a terrible idea and was worried that it would be around for a longer period of time.

Wow, honestly I'm surprised at how quick this occurred. Kudos to the church. This is good news.

what a cluster. Who the heck is driving the good ship Zion these days?

Ftr, I’m happy they got rid of it but sad it ever existed in the first place.
