He totally came out swinging! He DESERVED an attack. The problem is that when everyone gave in and attacked him back, they also gave him control over the content of the thread. That was detrimental in this case. He might have even added something worthwhile given the chance.

But don't get me wrong... I'm not excusing his vitriol. I'm only saying that it doesn't have to have so much power over everyone else.

trolls always destroy threads. But don't blame the fish. Blame the fisherman.

correct. but the troll is deliberately manipulating the threads. The trolled rarely realize they're contributing.

Well... maybe it's time to wise-up.

I like your new avatar, btw. I'm glad she's still a head higher than him... .

It's called the wife grip. Couldn't show that jar that she stores his testicles in. That would belong on the punography thread.

From a very simplistic standpoint, a gill is an inverted lung, water is the carrier of oxygen versus air. I don't have any clue who first punched the fishes gill outside in though.
Wouldn't it have to be a genetic anomaly that would have occurred in a significant number of turtles? And it's such an odd anomaly.

I guess I need to brush up on my biology. I literally didn't take a natural sciences class at BYU. I remember that genetic mutation played a part in evolution. But wouldn't the mutation have to occur in multiple members of the species at a time in close proximity for the trait to gain traction? Natural selection can only do so much. You can gather all of the smartest dogs in the world, breed them together and concentrate the intelligence traits and you're still going to reach a plateau at some point significantly below the level of intelligence found in humans (well, at least in some humans. I'm sure these dogs would be more functional than 50% of the people you see walking around Wal-Mart on any given day).

BTW, the more I think about these questions, the more 2001: A Space Odyssey makes sense.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

NO. People asked me about my belief in God or lack thereof. I was very candid, gave a heartfelt response, and got a snarky comment from Indy trivializing it. Sorry, I really don't believe a purpose of billions of years of human history is that we all become LDS. I think his perspective is trivial, even comically absurd. More thoughtful people agree with me than with him.

Think of it as a exponential curve. 1 turtle with a genetic "advantage" has 10 offspring because of longevity, etc while the average turtle has only 5. Each of the first turtles offspring has 10 offspring because of the genetic advantage, of which each of those offspring has 10 etc, as you can see the group of turtles with the genetic advantage will become the prominent percentage of the gene pool after only a few generations. This is accelerated when the generational cycle is short.

Since the LDS church is God's church, that means that God is LDS. If that chaps your hide, then that's a bonus.

Can't say I'm SURE he DELIBERATELY manipulated this thread. The damage came from a lot of directions. Maybe it's just fun to have a scapegoat....

They are all God's churches, Indy, to the extent that anything belongs to God. He may work through them as much as He wishes. This is true of all churches, and it is at the heart of LDS doctrine, that God continued to work through other churches (as He wished) to prepare the day when Joseph Smith could restore the priesthood authority. The main thing you believe on this subject is that God works through the Mormon church a lot more than the other churches, and He has made his intentions a bit more clear... yes, God decided to restore the priesthood authority to a bunch polygamists who later became a bunch of white Republicans (generally speaking). Indeed, the Lord works in mysterious ways.
