The human part is clear. The divine part, not so much. You're just making a bald assertion.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI have a very simple paradigm: The church is clearly a mishmash of the human and the divine. You can take the cynical route and let the human part spoil it for you or you can spend a lifetime sifting out and finding joy in the divine. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

fifyOriginally posted by SeattleUte View PostYes. I was just explaining this to someone today.
Actually, I should amend about Levin. I don't know what he really believes. All I know about him is that he's an obnoxious troll who cares more aboutan antagonizing Sooner and CardiacTaylor Swift thannourishing their since childhood friendshipanything else."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

He also named me specifically in that group.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostIt was Levin's thread. He asked something like how can smart guys like Pac, etc. continue to believe in the LDS Church--of course he said it as a believer. I think the types of exchanges that this letter to the CES represents are foolish in much the same way I think LDS apologetics is foolish.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Somewhere down in the deepest darkest recesses of SU's soul, there is a small light still flickering, waiting to be fanned into a blaze. I am sure of it.Originally posted by Pelado View PostSU has become accustomed to the dark and dreary skies above Seattle. Let me withdraw that last sentence. It's my policy not to attack anyone's faith. I'm actually totally uninterested in faith, whether pro or con.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIt's clear to me.

I think if you're asking yourself if things in the Bible, BofA, BofM, First Vision etc. are literally true then you are missing the point. Religion is a metaphor. I don't believe in any of the supernatural stuff but I think it's fine to believe part or all of the supernatural stuff for those who are so inclined.
For me it's all about extracting the emotionally and psychologically true things out of religion that help me be a happier and better person. Something in the scriptures or a conference talk that is factually false can be profoundly true and inspiring from a psychological/emotional perspective.

None of us "so-called academics" got mentioned. We peer-reviewed the list and decided that Levin wouldn't know intelligence if God created it.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostHe also named me specifically in that group."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

I think this is a wholly inaccurate statement. First you have attacked people for matters of faith before, although I will not get into a debate about that here. Second, faith in a belief is one of the most powerful forces shaping our word right now. I suspect you have plenty of opinions about that.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostLet me withdraw that last sentence. It's my policy not to attack anyone's faith.
