I didn't know Runnells was legally deaf. Guess I learn something new everyday."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

For all you folks who like to dis these ex-mo celebrities, I say this:
The Church is responsible for:
A) creating them
B) elevating their status by coming after them in disciplinary councils
If the Church simply ignored them, it would be a non-news story.
The Church is led by a bunch of idiots with idiot PR people who do their bidding. If they simply let people live their lives and ignored the likes of Dehlin, Runnells, and Ordain Women, these agitators would just meld into the fabric of Mormonism rather than garnering all this publicity. The Church makes things worse for themselves.

You're wrong. There is no one on the earth more devout than my parents. I guarantee my parents no nothing about Kate Kelly, John Dehlin or Jeremy Runnells. If someone told them about these people and added they had been excommunicated, all credibility would be lost. You might think the Church's PR people are idiots, but the fact that they've been able to keep the troops in order, would suggest otherwise.Originally posted by ByronMarchant View PostFor all you folks who like to dis these ex-mo celebrities, I say this:

Yep. I know who Kate Kelly is b/c we have common friends on fb and the other two I've only heard about on this site. Nobody gives a shit about these alleged "ex-mo celebs." It's just a pathetic designation to begin with.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostYou're wrong. There is no one on the earth more devout than my parents. People on this board not withstanding, most Mormons have no interest in looking at the faith in an objective manner. It's like people hawking essential oils...they have already bought in and are not going to have their conviction rocked.Originally posted by ByronMarchant View PostI'll acknowledge that people who don't read the news might not know what's going on in the world."The mind is not a boomerang.
