Sooner, It is going to be Prophet Bednar in a few years. You are going to have a one two punch of Oaks and Bednar for a lot of years. I don't think you will be back Sooner anytime soon, there in not going to be a lot of progressiveness going on.

I would never wish anything bad on someone unless it is Kim Jung Un or Adolf Hitler or someone like that, but unexpected things happen. You never know. I seem to recall learning in seminary about how God strikes prophets dead or calls them home prematurely at a whim.

Just wondering why you care. The Church is never going to accomodate all your demands. Even if they did, there is zero reason for you to go. Is this some sort of miserable hobby for you?

I care about the Church and want it to be better.

I see no reason why the church couldn't abandon sexism, homophobia, and remnants of racism.

I want to go back but can't until it changes.

The greatest obstacle for the church is complacent members and anti-intellectualism as demonstrated by Elder Bednar.

Wrong. It's pride. That's what was prophesied in the BoM.

Night of a national holiday and Sooner is sitting around thinking about Elder Bednar. I'm afraid Sooner needs to get a life.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Here's the deal - You're in complete control of your destiny, and you seem like a smart guy so I don't understand why you don't see what less intelligent people like me see. It's a numbers game, if there is no God, then what you do in this life has no eternal consequences. If that's the case, you're already doing 80% of the heavy lifting of being a "good human being" by living in accordance with societal mores. That extra 20% isn't hard, (you've actually done it all your life) and "just in case" there is a God and you lived up to God's words and kept covenants you've already made... you'll end up in the SEC Division of Heaven, not worrying about the Mountain West Conference and a mid winters BB game in Spokane. If there is no God then it's all fade to black. Your proclamated path leads you nowhere, even if there is a somewhere on the otherside. You're tanking your season for a draft pick that you'll never get to make.

The only thing I see holding you back and submitting your will to greatest probable statistical outcome is pride.

You have got to be F-ing kidding me. You have almost 29,000 posts and are telling me to get a life? Remind me what you do in your life that gives you time for 29,000 posts.

Actually, I'm honestly disturbed that a future prophet is so dismissive of books and scholars.

Fiction over fact. Facts are trouble for faith. Stay away from facts unless you prioritize faith over them. That is Bednar's message to the world.

What he meant to say was "You can be a great husband/father and a great church man regardless of educational background."

Then he should have said it that way.

We are talking about a man who revoked an apostolic blessing over talking in the chapel. This man is either unwell or a very poor communicator.

I can understand that everyone is prone to hyperbole, and I don't want to be judged for mine. But isn't this an especially bizarre thing for a former university president to say, even to make a point?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
