My one and only baby blessing I made certain to begin the prayer by acknowledging my wife's presence but most of me wished she were standing next to me, if not giving the blessing.

Since your participation has already invalidated the ordinance, the bishop probably figured, "what the hell, why not?"

Lol. I thought of typing this but decided against it. Dammit.

ha. Probably true. They were trying to find a way to get her dad involved, but as a non-member getting him in the circle was a no-go. I said if they're going to let me in the circle they should let him.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Is hopfrog still attending in your area? He might as well jump in there, too.

            • Hell, SU might as well join in.

Never mind, the building would cave in.

No, me moved down south to take care of his mom a while ago. But he'd look awesome rocking his Brigham Young punk jacket in the circle! :rockon2:

No, the jacket he wore to church on Sunday was BY. It was the cover from the teachings of the prophets manual, IIRC, and a black jeans jacket lined with metal studs around the image. The Joseph Smith thing is from when he hosted an art walk with his queer friends (that's how he'd say it!) to celebrate his rebaptism. He dressed in drag and was rocking a JS t-shirt. That was just a little before we moved into the ward.

So cool. He was fun to have around here. He's one of a handful of CSers I would love to meet.

We had a baby blessing in our ward where the father was a non-member. He held the microphone for the blessing. Baby steps.

I think they did offer him that gig. A mic drop after would be sweet.

                            LOL.

My wife is a doctor too, and she earns more than I do.
But she's not interested in priesthood, so at least I've got that going for me.

                            Thanks for the laugh.

PS - you guys comparing Old Testament & New Testament are mixing genres, thus leading to the various conflicting versions & approaches.

There were a lot of early Christians (e.g. Marcion) who advocated jettisoning the entire O.T., since it didn't apply to Christianity. There are definitely lessons to be gleaned from those writings, but the Old Testament really doesn't have anything like the Hagiographic gospels or the exhortational letters of Paul. Much of the O.T. was intended to record what had happened or what was imminently promised. Plus, there's a bunch of pretty poetry.

There's a lot about Israel's condemnation & salvation as a nation, but it's the N.T. that preaches individual salvation despite the apostasy of the nation. It's really hard to reconcile the genres & audiences for both to a common denominator for modern application - so we cherry pick. No harm in that. The writers of the gospels cherry-picked from the OT to make their case for Jesus. Paul cherry-picks in order to prove Jesus as Christ. There is no shame in doing the same thing today.

Indeed. I was amazed to learn how much OT proof-texting there is in the NT.
