I thought so. Btw, that book is now in my queue. Just read the synopsis and it sounds great.
For some strange reason I started reading the Jack Reacher series despite only being mildly entertained. Two more to go. You will love it. One of the most engrossing books I have read in recent years. Hampton Sides is a terrific writer.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostI thought so. Btw, that book is now in my queue. Just read the synopsis and it sounds great.

The fascinating thing about the story is how the FBI was kind of hard on MLK (thanks to Hoover), but when he was assassinated they brought the full force of the entire agency to catch the killer. And this was in pre-computer days so just processing the tips/leads and managing the manhunt on that scale was an amazing accomplishment."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Some of the reviews are very critical of the book claiming that the author took a lot of liberties with the truth.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYou will love it. One of the most engrossing books I have read in recent years. Hampton Sides is a terrific writer.

Sides is clearly writing for the once-over crowd. Only people with no familiarity with the case could be suckered by his florid prose. The myopic-- an unfounded-- focus on Ray the raging racist is untenable. Nothing left to do but add detail detail; the wrong ones. It is telling of the state of corporate america that a book like this-- which takes such fictive liberties with a subject so crucial to US history-- is given such wide publicity. It's not telling anything positive for our democracy.
