I have no problem with junkie's comments. How could anyone? Clearly he's on the right side of the Mormon god. His god is the Mormon god and that is self-evident. Why is this controversial? When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

I might be mid-Sunday nap during that time, so the silence part might be observed at my place.

From September 6 member Lavina Fielding Anderson. This to me summarizes the why behind this. Maybe it's too simplistic a view. Admittedly I don't follow Kelly or Dehlin at all. But in my view the focus of church should always be centered around the Savior, his sacrifice and example. It's not that I don't think human rights are important, but it isn't what is most important here, and instead of talking about the Savior, the focus is on other items. Right now, the focus is squarely on these two individuals. I get that they have causes, but it may be time for them to step back and realize what church should be primarily about. Not individual causes, but a singular cause, the relationship with our Savior.Being excommunicated is something I think of or am reminded about every single day. It’s like a death; I haven’t gotten ‘over’ it. It hasn’t become irrelevant. But it has turned my heart even more to the plain and precious part of Christ’s love, grace and atonement.
Yes, I am going to disclaim this with the fact that I think as a church, we have a long ways to go to get to this point. I think we fall dramatically short. I don't care for the exaltation of JS as much as it gets at times, though I understand the need to teach, and recognize him as a prophet. A flawed man, but a prophet. But IMO, everything taught at church, including JS and the restoration, should focus on the Savior, our relationship with him, and his love for us.
Just my two cents.

Shouldn't the church be the one stepping back and trying to follow christ?Originally posted by Sizzle View PostFrom September 6 member Lavina Fielding Anderson. Just my two cents."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. It has become apparent that a man can, within limits, follow his inclinations within the arms of the Church if he does so discreetly." - The Walking Drum
