Yeah, that seems pretty egregious.
But I'm guessing there must have been some mitigating circumstance--maybe the fact that the bishop referred him to her in the first place and thus already knew the nature of the problem? Not justifying it, but guessing.
Confidentiality issues are really taken seriously, so there must have been something. Also, reason #245 that confession to an unpaid and untrained clergyman is inappropriate.

This is wrong on so many levels. She should have her license terminated, not suspended. She's friends with the wife, to the extent that the wife works for her, and hangs out in her office, yet she's supposed to be the go between the couple for counseling?

I like that part of her discipline is counseling, I guess so she can understand better why she flouted the rules. Don't counsel her, just kick her out. There are took many kooks in the business already, they cant afford to let these crazy-ass people continue to work in their industry.

And what's up with the bishop? If I were a bishop and someone came to me with information on someone they gathered from therapy, I'd tell them that no communication will go either way unless there is a release on my desk.

Not sensible if the couple were staying together, because it just hurts the family if he doesn't get a college degree. Why go to the Bishop to pull his EE when one can go directly to the HC office (which she did). Maybe she did both. The whole anonymous, or otherwise, referral system to the HC office is repugnant but I won't start playing that broken record again.

I mentioned this article to my wife and the more I thought about it, the more I was repulsed by it. The fact that some therapist ratted him out to the HC and the HC actually takes confidential information and kicks the guy out is absolutely horrible. We are only talking about porn here right?

Yes, what is up with the Bishop? He should be fired/released for (1) referring this guy to his brother's business (how much of the $2,000/mo did the bishop get on the kick back?) and (2), as you point out, accepting this kind of information without a release from the patient. He should have reported her to the DOPL himself for trying to do such a thing. I am wondering why anyone would go to a mormon therapist again after hearing this story and the fact that the DOPL hasn't pulled her license or, at least, suspended her. Did she think she was helping in some way?

What is really honorable about it. Are you on your honor to follow it. I don't think so.

Are the principles contained in the honor code honorable? No, not all of them.

It has been and always will be a way to control and punish college age kids who are prone to be rebellious. If they would come out and just state that and give up on all the "moral" and "high standards" above everyone else crap, I could support the HC.

He needs to drive up I-15 a few miles...I routinely saw people looking at porn in the on campus computer lab at the U.

I agree. You can't trust a Bishop with personal matters just because he has been called by a Stake President. I would probably be even more cautious with a Stake President. The higher the chain of command, the higher the odds are you hit someone who is orthodox in their thinking.

Some Bishops and SP's of course are awesome and most I have known I would share personal matters. However, it is a personal choice and again not something you should do based solely on their calling.

It's entirely possible that the EE was pulled by his bishop, leading to his ejection from the school--the article doesn't make that point clear. However, if she went to the HCO in 2009, and told them what was going on, I think it's embarrassing and improper to have her then speak in 2010 at Women's Conference on campus about porn addiction. What she did, any way you look at it, was unethical and improper. Such people should not be allowed to speak to LGM's of a religious nature.
