In our 5th-Sunday combined RS/PH meeting yesterday, we were treated to a guest instructor who shared some staggering statistics and facts on "punography." I would type "pornography," but that's not what she said. No, our lesson was on punography. I spent the first 5 minutes of the class wondering how someone whose profession it is to deal with punograhpy hasn't taken the time to learn how to properly pronounce the word (she is a counselor/social worker for LDS Family Services, or something to that effect), but then she started throwing out "facts", and she had my attention:

    1) Punograhpy is a 15-billion-year industry, which is larger than pro sports and movies combined.

    2) In the last 12 months, punography revenues have dipped by 80% (12 billion dollars? Really?). Why? Because of the economy. Wrong--the economy has had nothing to do with it. It's because people are filming/photographing their own punography on their smart phones, and sending it via text message.

    3) The research and implementation of the technology for smart phones, high-definition televisions and programming, internet message boards, internet chat rooms, and web cams was all subsidized primarily by the punograhpy industry.

    4) People aren't using facebook to reconnect with old friends. They are pretending to reconnect with old friends so they can seek out sexual partners.

    5) Marriage-age kids don't date anymore, because they are getting their sexual needs filled via punograhpy. Most RMs aren't getting married because they would rather watch pornography.

There was more, but those were all the notes I could take on my punography-subsidized smartphone before I completely tuned the lady out.

While I in no way doubt the negative effects pornography can and does have on individuals who view it, I was pretty amazed at how many blanket statements this "expert" threw out there. I was even more amazed that our entire stake presidency was present, and none of them even batted an eye. Am I really supposed to believe that a 15-billion dollar a year industry took a 12-billion dollar dip in the last year because people are texting nudie pics to each other? 12 billion dollars worth? Really?

In short, I was not so put off that we were having a lesson on the evils of pornography, but that so many anecdotal examples were shared, and offered as, not only the normal result, but the only result. Also, I feel like a loOser, because I have used facebook for 18 months, and have yet to be solicited for extramarital relations (except by HFN, but i'm not gay, so I don't really count that one).
Since this is a thread for the latest stats and facts on pornography, I think it's time for an update.

Have porn sales continued their sharp decline? I can video chat naked on my phone now, I'm guessing that kind of instant streaming is just making things worse on the homemade porn front. I'm going to do my part to take down the paid porn industry by sending cUTEy a live stream of my junk. Does this mean porn now trails movies and sports in the competition for your entertainment dollar? Or have real time score updates and illegal movie and TV streaming had the same effect that sexting had on porn?

Also, I recently friended my high school girlfriend on facebook. I suppose it is only a matter of time before I'm just another Enrichment Night statistic.

Probably only took him 5 minutes to go down to the street corner and do his research.

Current prices for cocaine in Los Angeles range from $50-70/gram. An '8-Ball,' which is about 3.5 grams of cocaine, gets its name from being approximately 1/8th of an ounce, and would generally be considered a generous supply that would last two or three people one hard night of partying. It would cost in the neighborhood of $175-200.

So, 5 OUNCES of cocaine would cost about $7000 (apply the low end of the gram/$, assuming bulk discount).

For someone who just ordered $7000 worth of coke, I think wuap is being a little cheap with the quality of his hookers. And besides favoring cheap hookers and snickers bars (if I were the concierge, I'd throw those and the 'box of rubbers' in for free with the 5 oz. of blow), wuap also seems to have the tolerance of Tony Montana.
        LOL.

Also, cocaine is an extreme appetite suppressor (which is why it has been so popular among super models), so I don't know what you have planned with those candy bars, but I would guess it might bring new meaning to the tagline 'Snickers really satisfies.'

                • This is troubling on several fronts. I wonder how the HC office handled this? How much due process did the guy get prior to being kicked out? Apparently the HC office doesn't mind fruit from the poisonous tree?

                  • Excessive use of pornography is not recognized as a disorder by the American Psychiatric Association.
                    I did not know that.

                    • In an interview, John Doe said the couple had been referred to LifeStar for marriage counseling by their LDS bishop, whose brother co-founded the Murray-based national LifeStar Network.
This bothered me. The bishop funneling business to his brother.

And at $2000/month? For treating porn use? WTF?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

The money would otherwise just go into feeding the porn addiction, so it's really a cost save when you look at it.

And then the brother's company seems to be covering its *ss(ets) by stating that the therapist was acting completely on her own...

Todd Olson, with LifeStar Network in Murray, said he is aware of the discipline order against Hildebrandt. He said she is licensed to use the company’s materials but she is not an employee, and he has no authority over her Utah County office.
BTW, how does a therapist that violates doctor-patient confidentially, and admits to it, continue to practice "without interruption"?

In the DOPL order, she agreed that her actions violated state law and the American Counseling Association’s code of ethics.

Hildebrandt’s lawyer, Robert Harrison, said in an email that her license is "active and her practice has and will continue without interruption."

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                              • This is wrong on so many levels. She should have her license terminated, not suspended. She's friends with the wife, to the extent that the wife works for her, and hangs out in her office, yet she's supposed to be the go between the couple for counseling?

I like that part of her discipline is counseling, I guess so she can understand better why she flouted the rules. Don't counsel her, just kick her out. There are took many kooks in the business already, they cant afford to let these crazy-ass people continue to work in their industry.

And what's up with the bishop? If I were a bishop and someone came to me with information on someone they gathered from therapy, I'd tell them that no communication will go either way unless there is a release on my desk.
