"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

So, I'm not quite sure what defines "grooming and brainwashing onto the Mormon culture," but it no doubt involves cookies, donuts, and bubble-up soda.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Maybe Kyle doesn't like his family.
Really weird about the age difference though. Might be something to her being a gold digger, but the rest...? He sure talks a lot about being "groomed into the mormon culture" without ever saying what that even means. Groomed to what? Go to church? Hang out with his girlfriend's family?Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Agree on the age. That is weird. The "mormon grooming" crap is offensive and smacks of deep south evangelical religious bigotry.Originally posted by falafel View PostMaybe Kyle doesn't like his family.

I went through something like this with my son and a local cult-like evangelical church. He was 15 and was dating a girl whose parents made my son their project without consulting us even once. They were texting him privately, inviting him to events privately, and working very hard to influence him outside of our knowledge. I recognized what was happening because I've seen it done so many times when I was an active LDS. In those cases it was never done out of malignancy, just in the spirit of sharing their truth and saving a soul, but when done without the full consent of family and without 100% sharing of info it can be a really bad look. Anytime you have lay leadership, doing it the wrong way is on the table. Grooming isn't the word because that's loaded with sexual meaning.

I will probably end up watching this thing. The scandalous world of a group of Mormon mom influencers implodes when they get caught in the midst of a swinging sex scandal that makes international headlines. Now, their sisterhood is shook to its core. Faith, friendship and reputations are all on the line.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression
